    Guten Morgen!

Morning all, I hope I find you well?

I have some experience of Windows PCs (malware removal etc) but am by no stretch an expert so have joined to pick your collective brain.

My mother in law has the PC that belonged to my late father in law. It has apparently been sent off to a firm that put new passwords on so that she can use it.
Sounds great until it fell to me to wire the thing up. Connected up to its original wiring in the exact same spot it had sat in before, turned it on. It powered up, made all the good noises but nothing on the monitor.
I’ve fiddled with both the wiring and the monitor and it would seem the tv/monitor knows it’s got both HDTV and PC video connected to something but nothings showing.

    So, anything leap to mind?

Thank you for reading this far, Andrew

      Moved thread

Make sure you are connecting to the display card and not the display on the Motherboard.

          Famous last words.
I now have a working screen but windows appear to open on a second display that as far as I can tell doesn’t exist.
I therefore can’t access the display menu to reset it to a single display.

            Congrats on making progress.

You are able to get logged in yes, or no?

Can you attach the monitor and TV at the same time?
Then you can turn of the secondary monitor and use just one.

If you can get passed the login screen and depending on the following will depend on the steps needed.
            Operating System
            Version
            Release
            Desktop Environment

Hi fella, sorry for the delay. Thank you.

My original problem is sorted. There was only one monitor (the tv) but the PC was set up for two. Got round that more by luck than judgement.

Now need to figure out why the damn thing won’t turn off.
Click shut down and it goes through that procedure and then powers back up.

Thank you for letting us know and for the new issue you will need to create a new thread.

Post the new one under the Windows version that is installed on the system.

                  Happy Computing.
