PC doesn't boot 65% of the time.

    Hi All,

I’ve been struggling with this issue that started happening a couple of months after buying my PC, new, prebuilt, from a reputable company, two years ago.
Despite searching the internet for an answer, I haven’t been able to find any information that has helped me fix this problem. I’m writing here in the hopes that somebody may have run into an issue like this before and has managed to fix it, or maybe somebody has suggestions on how I can further troubleshoot and resolve this problem.

The problem I’m having, is that when I hit the power button on my PC, it feels like I’m rolling dice, there’s a chance my PC will turn on and boot normally, however usually my PC will not boot, the lights on my CPU cooler, GFX card and RAM all turn on, and my case fans start spinning at what sounds like high RPM, however, my CPU fan doesn’t start spinning, nothing boots, nothing comes up on my screen, and it kind of looks like my PC gets stuck just before the boot sequence, I’ve left it in this “Stuck” state for a few minutes before and It doesn’t look like my PC can get out of this state on its own, so I always end up powering it down and trying to boot up the PC again, sometimes the PC will boot up properly on the second try or occasionally it takes me 3 or 4 tries or on rare occasions, up to as many as 15 attempts to get my PC to boot up.

I did initially think that maybe I was having an issue with bad ram, so I purchased two more sticks of the same ram that my pc came installed with, and swapped them out with the new ones, however, this didn’t fix the issue, I now have 32GB of ram.

I’ve copied some information out of the system information in the hopes that might help diagnose the issue,
I’ve also recorded a video of what it looks like when my PC is failing to boot

if this has been happening for two years, what haven’t you tried?
      what hasn’t been replaced?

I would start by re-assembling the whole thing on to a piece of cardboard on the table.
only re-assemble the core components needed to reliably boot the PC - so one stick of RAM, one drive, no DVD, no GPU if the CPU and mobo support that, hell not even a mouse at this stage - let’s just prove you can get into the BIOS every time.

Hi veeg the PSU is a Cooler Master MWE Bronze V2 650W Power Supply - MPE-6501-ACAAB.

Hi Bruce, I haven’t attempted too many things to try to fix the issue, nothing since I tried swapping out the ram anyway, which I forgot to mention is T-Force Delta RGB 3200MHz 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 if that makes any difference at all.

The ram is the only component I’ve attempted replacing

I tried to dig around to see if I had maybe caused some kind of issue when I was installing all my software as when I initially purchased the PC I had no such issues, and the problems coincided with my failed attempts to get AUSUS aura working with the rig, however, I stupidly hadn’t made a backup so wasn’t able to roll the PC back, and when I attempted to do a factory reset, windows behaved strangely and from memory, I wasn’t successful, I think I left it at that

          no worries.

let’s start from a clean slate.
when it does successfully boot next time, backup any personal stuff you want to keep.

then download Windows Media Creation Tool and run it to create a bootable USB stick with the latest build of Windows.

make sure you have all the motherboard drivers, either from the original CD that came with the rig, or download them from the motherboard’s manufactures website.

get into BIOS and make the USB ports first in the boot order.
plug in the USB stick and reboot, that should start the process of reloading a new, clean version of Windows.

do a few reboots and see if we are on a reliable track of successfully starting each time.
if so, than reload the chipset drivers and your required software.
take to opportunity to reboot after each install - not because you need to, we just want to confirm the startups are now trustworthy.

Thanks for taking the time to help out, I’ll follow those steps either later tonight or tomorrow evening once I’ve got a USB stick handy and post an update

                  update from the OP
Hi Bruce, I completely forgot about my thread here regarding my PC intermittently not booting, I did end up finding a solution to the problem, I updated the firmware on my motherboard about a month ago and the problem hasn’t happened since.
