    Inconsistent boots

    Hi,

    Just built two towers, using 12400’s on an Asus B660 mATX board. Both consistently start (fans), but there is inconsistent video/USB power output (front and back panel). When I tried to put windows media on them it got halfway through the final check twice, one time the tower completely crashed, and the other time it said there was an error and to redo the process, so it took me back to the install screen then crashed almost straight away. This seems like a processor issue to me, though I can’t be completely sure so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    P.S. it took me about two hours to get them to stay on long enough to get as far as the windows install process.

    Regards,

    Swanny

    Hello Ben Swan,

    Can we have all your hardware information;

    Post the brand and model name or number for the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better assist you.

    In addition to the above;

    Are both builds inside a case.

    Do you have a keyboard connected.

    From where did you get the Windows media that you are trying to use.

    Are you using the same installation media for both builds.

    Is the Windows media on a USB thumb drive.

      Hi,
      in two different cases, the identical builds are as follows
      PC specs:
      12400
      2*8GB silicon power value gaming ddr4 @3200mhz
      ASUS prime b660M-A Wi-Fi ddr4 lga1700 MATX mobo
      EVGA 450 BV 450W 80+ BRONZE
      Antec VSK3000B-U3 Black Mid-Tower mATX Case

      From my amateur knowledge, this seems like a processor or memory issue. Or (although unlikely) an error I’ve made when building both the towers. I feel it’s unlikely as I don’t why the PC would show output sometimes but not others.

      the windows media was downloaded from Microsoft’s official website onto a USB drive
      Yes, the 4 things I have plugged into the PC are 1). monitor (HDMI). 2). keyboard. (USB) 3). mouse (USB). 4). thumb drive (only one plugged in from the front panel)

      these peripherals either all show power or none show power there is a little light on the keyboard and thumb drive and, the optical sensor on the mouse and the monitor either recognises the input or says no HDMI cable detected.

      Regards,
      Swanny

        You missed answering the above.

        Are you using the same monitor and video cable to test both builds.
