No boot/fans or sound

Hi,
I’m new here, and just received a new computer in the mail (used).

Unfortunately it got a little rough handling during shipping, and a visible dent in the case although no internal visible damages.
The PC in question is this one, an HP gaming computer with an rtx 3060.

I’m trying to pinpoint if the issue is the motherboard or the PSU before i gamble on buying a PSU for 1/6 of the price of the computer. The case is this:
When pushing power button the only sign of life is a green light in the ethernet port (which is integrated in the motherboard). This proves the power button is not the issue and that the motherboard at least have some power. No fans (not even in PSU) and no other lights. RAM is taken out and in, all cabels are taken out and in, and the CMOS battery is removed and reinstalled. PC has been disconnected, and power button pressed for 30 sec. The PC has also been attempted booted without the GPU (yes the motherboard has an integrated HDMI as well).

Would greatly appreciate some thoughts on whether I should gamble on a new PSU or if this might be the motherboard. Thanks a lot!

I will say with that kind of damage in the front, you will need to go thru a thorough inspection of all parts.. Check the mobo for cracks. also the hdd since the damage is right on it.

obviously it wasn’t packed very well. :whistle:

from the pic, the backplane support brackets have had a substantial knock.
and a wireless antenna cable has come off the wifi adapter card (if it was ever on!)

the bent case is only the damage you can see, you are going to have to strip out all the components and check each one.
with that sort of drop/knock, the graphics card may have been pushed back in its slot, cracking something, or the motherboard may have warped, or shattered at the stand-off points.

can’t read the wattage of the power supply, but it doesn’t look like something that should be powering that graphics card!

the HP proprietary board doesn’t look like a gaming level board either.

did the rig not come with warranty?
what about insurance during transit?

I thought that loose cable was a sensor, but yes might be supposed to be connected, can try that too.

There are no cracks in motherboard and the slot for the gpu is fine. But you’re right it could be other issues than possibly the PSU. The wattage is 400, and I think the 3060 only requires 175.

I just got informed that I’ll get refunded from insurance, so the best solution might be testing that the GPU is fine and buy a Pc without GPU.

According to the requirements for that card it requires 550 watt PSU.

My honest opnion is to send it back there could be something that may happen later down the line that we have not anticapated. The sysem may also work flawesly ater you re seat everything could be that something is just loose and that may fix it.

Listen for any different type of sounds, and or any issues that may accure. Would defently report this to the place you received that package form and purchase the system form.

If you get it to boot you will be back here again with more questions as the system is underpowered to start - nothing but problems.
A lot of problems on this site and others is underpower

No it does look like it is not and even looks as if the lower right bolt is missing.

Thanks guys, as I got a full refund and altso fond a reasonable used PSU, I’m awaiting that in the mail. Will let you know how it turns out.

As for the PSU 400w is normal in this setup, and is sold all over Scandinavia in Power and Elkjøp. Find no other complaints about it being too low. It’s made by HP, so might be a less powerful edition than the common ones.
