Anybody know where HP keeps their RAM QVL?

All - does anybody know where I can find the qualified RAM list for the Elitedesk 800 G2.

Apologies to Bruce on my ‘RAM Confusion’ thread. I did not get the e-mail notification that you asked about it. I went on the HP support forum and the guy insists it’s non-qualified RAM that’s causing the issue. I’m not convinced, but am running out of options. According to him, it’s essentially the RAM manufacturers that qualify the parts, which makes no sense, and for example, the part Crucial specifies does not work properly. So there’s that. Thanks,

Here is your manual, page 35 specifies the necessary ram.

You could also try Crucial’s Memory Upgrade Scanner, but I would go for the service manual first.

I may be missing it, but those are just general specs. That’s normally good enough in most boxes, but apparently not this one. I need the specific manuf. P/Ns, ie, the Crucial P/N, Hynix, etc.

Are you looking for an OEM #?

If so, the only place I have seen spare parts listed is for the G1 models, the G2 only includes that general info sheet.

You might have some luck with their parts site: HP PartSurfer

Yes, I’m looking for the OEM P/N. It looks like G1 uses a different BIOS. Prolly a different chipset. I can’t believe the money for this PC is down the drain.

Did you ever refer to the Manual that you were suggested on the other forum that you posted this question on?

PeterOz - I don’t think so, but update; it turns out that although I ordered the modules that Crucial specified for this PC, the eBay seller sent me modules with one digit of the P/N different…I got dual rank modules, which Crucial told me today is NOT compatible with my PC. Crucial says single rank IS compatible. I bit the bullet and ordered two 8GB single rank sticks directly from Crucial, since they are guaranteed to work. Now this could be nothing more than marketing and market conditions, since I hear from a PC builder on uTube that many single rank sticks are now being shipped. So we’ll see. Stay tuned,

Bruce - just now solved it…I had to swap the SFF mobo back in and use the single rank sticks that Crucial specifies on their memory finder. On the Crucial 8GB sticks for this system, only single rank sticks will work. I see the single rank sticks have chips on one side of the PCB only, but the dual rank have chips on both sides. Reminds of old eMachines PCs. That was PC100/133 stuff…wow HP. Anyway, finally the system shows all 16GB of RAM, and also dual channel operation. It appears that the G.Skill Aegis sticks actually damaged the CMOS chip on the original mobo. Then, it appears that the Crucial dual rank 8GB sticks initially didn’t work in the SFF board, then did work after better BIOS installation method. I posted this on an HP support forum and one of the things I found out is that on this system it’s better to install BIOS updates right out of BIOS, rather than starting in Windows.

                            Thanks,

                            MT
