    Gateway FX6800 problem

    Have Gateway FX6800-01e with a 64-bit Intel i7-920 motherboard has 6 memory slots, three are white and three are blue. According to specs it should work with 12 Gb total memory 2 Gb in each slot. Works fine with 3ea 2Gb in white slots but will not work with anything in blue slots either alone or in combination with white slots. Will not work with same memory sticks in 3 blue slots only that work fine in white slots. All six memory sticks are identical bought at the same time with the same part numbers b y same manufacturer.

    Is there some trick to activate the blue slots. Manuals on Gateway not helpful, cannot find manuals on motherboard.

    Please offer suggestions, Thank you !

    Choose your country > Support > Drivers and Downloads

    That will bring you to the manual for your generation of computer.

    As far as adding RAM, it might be more helpful if you took a picture, the models I could find only showed 4-slot models, and only detailed installing a new stick as per usual.

    Did you check to make sure the ram was the right kind?
    Crucial has a program that will help you sort out what you need if unsure:
    Use Crucial's SSD and RAM compatibility checker for your PC or system. Scan your system to find compatible upgrades.

    Did you ground yourself before tampering with the computer?

    Did you change anything else, adjust any connectors, move anything?

        14 year old PC? - is it wise spending too much time or money on this thing?

          Also I think you need to run triple channel
          3x4 = 12gb

            I have exactly the same problem. I can put 3 x 4 gig ram in white slots for a total of 12 but it does not read anything in blue slots.

              thanks David, good to know, I would have thought that old mobo would be limited to max 2GB per slot.
