    PC randomly freezes when playing games, followed by loud static from speakers

    Hi all, so for a while, I have been getting this issue where my PC will freeze while playing games out of nowhere. It seems to be highly unpredictable just when it will freeze… but when it does, a loud, ear-piercing static will come out of the headphones and everything will become unresponsive. The only option is to reboot the computer at this point.

    So far I have tried this:

    [li]Deleting game config files from Documents folder[/li][li]Uninstalling, deleting the whole game files and reinstalling my games[/li][li]Uninstalling Nvidia display driver, and reinstalling the latest one from the website[/li][li]Defragging hard drives[/li][li]Running a virus scan[/li][li]Running in safe mode[/li][li]Doing a clean boot[/li][li]SFC /SCANNOW[/li][li]DISM /online /service-image /restorehealth[/li][li]Running startup repair with a Windows 10 usb[/li][li]Updating Windows 10 to the latest version[/li][li]Removing sound driver and reinstalling the latest one from Windows Update[/li][li]Installing the latest Realtek Audio driver from the website[/li][/ol]
    After all of these painful steps, I am still experiencing random freezing that occurs in certain games, namely games like Fallout 76 or GTA V…
    So far I believe this is either…
    A) Faulty Ram B) Faulty Windows install or B) Faulty mobo/PSU

    Anyone has any idea of where I can start with this issue? Thanks

    Hello, these two logs will allow others to assist you better. Hardware is not my thing, these logs will help this thread move along faster tho.

    Step 1: Get System Info Log.

    Include in your next reply a Get System Info log.
    Save it to your desktop when complete.
    Once you have the file on your desktop, then upload it here.
    Copy the URL after your report is loaded.
    Then send us the link.

    Step 2: Speccy Scan.

          When you reinstalled the graphics driver did you use DDU to cleanly remove everything then install the latest driver?
          Speccy shows you have 3 graphics cards - is that correct? Did you cleanly remove all of these?
          Windows update is disabled? Why is this? Have you checked for any Windows updates?
          Is CCleaner the pro version & if so are you or have you used the Driver updater to update drivers?

            2. I do not have 3 graphics cards, I only have 1, I’m not sure why it shows 3… I have 2 monitors, but only 1 GPU
            3. Windows Update is disabled?? I disabled auto-updates since I saw so much negative talk from people back in 2016 that Windows will update on people without warning… so that drove me to the decision of disabling auto updates completely, and Yes - I can still manually check for updates and update! which I did recently !
            4. No, I am using the free version of CCleaner, I haven’t used Driver updater to update drivers, just Windows Update

              Typical behaviour of something overheating, this includes the PSU internally.

              What is the brand and model name or number of the PSU.

              Notes from Speccy;
              CPU
              Intel Core i7 5820K @ 3.30GHz: 40 °C
              Haswell-E/EP 22nm Technology
              RAM
              64.0GB Unknown @ [COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)]1199MHz

              That is the wrong RAM for your CPU, Intel state here up to 2133MHz and if you have XMP enabled the RAM will get auto OCd past what the CPU can handle and the PC fall over.

              Go into the BIOS, disable XMP and then manually set the RAM to run at 2133MHz and if needed the voltage to 1.2V.
              Power Profile
              Active power scheme:[COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)] High performance

              Change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, Ultra and High Performance are a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues, the setting should only be used for gaming type notebooks that have a discrete GPU that needs the extra power.[/COLOR][/COLOR]

                EVGA 1300 is my PSU brand and name for my current PC; not sure why Speccy says my RAM is unknown, it’s Crucial Ballistix DDR-4
                I have XMP disabled in the UEFI/BIOS settings… setting it to 2133MHz is safe, yes?

                I will also set the power scheme to Balanced and report back if I still have issues, or if there are more problems that need to be addressed before I continue

                  A very good PSU and not likely to be struggling to support your build.

                  Disabling XMP should revert the RAM to the stock 2133MHz but no harm in doing it yourself to be sure.

                  Change the Windows Power Plan, restart the PC and test by using the computer the way that you normally would, post back with an update when done.

                    I’m so sorry, I swear to god that I replied!!!

                    This fixed my issue
                    I downclocked RAM to 2133 from 2300 Mhz (XMP WAS OFF!!! it was set to AUTO not manual, idk why it was clocking it up to 2400)
                    I changed Windows power plan to balanced instead of High Performance

                    So far so good!!! No problems but I will report back later if I run into any
