RAM causing PC to freeze

Hello! I’ve been having problems with my PC for over a year where it will randomly freeze while I’m playing a game or just browsing the internet(Mostly while playing a game). It freezes in different ways not sure if it matters but sometimes the monitor will lose connection and go black or it would just freeze the screen while I hear my video playing(Sometimes it’ll freeze for a second and then automatically restart). I have had my PC for about two years and originally I had 36gbs of RAM with four sticks but when this started happening I took it into a local repair shop and they said my last two RAM slots were bad. I was only using the first two slots after that with two 8GB sticks and for a while, it was working fine until the issue came back and it was a crash/freeze every other day now it’s every single day. I was using just one stick of RAM for a week and it froze once or twice barely noticeable but it was still freezing

I have tried multiple things online to fix the problem but at this point, I think it might be hardware-related. I have reset my PC many times since and tried different sticks of RAM in every slot but nothing seems to work

Give us your complete pc spec’s and psu spec’s..

when you say you reset your PC, what do you mean?
hit the reset button on the case, reloaded Windows completely afresh or a repair reinstall of Windows leaving your apps and files alone.

once we know the PC specs, we’ll have a better idea on how to progress.
but for starters, when was the last time you opened up the PC and blew out the dust - use an air compressor if you can, or those cans of compressed air.
hits all the air vents, fan blades, heat sinks and the power supply too.
remove and clean the memory sticks and the graphics card - also clean their circuit boards, their contacts and their mobo slots with a soft bristled brush.

I wiped my main hard drive and reinstalled windows twice since the problem started(My second hard drive didn’t get touched). I am about to go get some air from the store it’s been months since I had cleaned my PC.

Also, I tried the command “sfc /scannow” and I have ran Memtest86 but I got zero errors for both. Thanks again

in Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.

My power supply seems like it’s built into the case and it’s covered up so I can’t see it. I have the new egg link below to my exact PC if it helps but for the PSU it only says “600 Watts 80 Plus Gold Power Supply”

how did the dust removal, and cleaning and reseating the RAM and GPU go?
also try putting the RAM into another mobo slot.

looks like you have a few BIOS updates for that mobo that you can upgrade to.

also try these commands;

So the cleaning went very well the first day((Thursday) it didn’t crash once when I had 16gbs of RAM in. The next day however it froze twice so I sprayed it again, removed one stick of RAM and it’s been fine since. Cleaning it out definitely helped because it froze four times the day before. I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to computers could this whole issue be a dust problem?

Okay, ill update my mobo should I look online, or is it through windows?

For the commands should I run those when I have 16gbs of RAM in? I’ll still run them anyways
Not sure if its relevant I have tried " dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth " and got zero errors

let’s see what the next few days bring.
as to the dust being the cause - honestly, who knows. sometimes with computers we just try things and see what sticks.
it’s more practical experience than science!

sounds like it could just as easily be that stick of memory as well.

no, those commands can be run at any time.
if the first command said no errors, the second command will find nothing to fix, but should free up a few GB’s as it resets the WinSxS folder.

So it froze earlier first time since Friday and I only have one stick of RAM(8GB) in. I have two completely different sticks that I haven’t tried in a while because I was experiencing the same issue with them. If it freezes again I will try swapping them out and giving it a spray

If I put a different stick in should I re-test anything? Like Commands or software again

I also successfully ran those commands after it freeze earlier. No Errors

yeah, if it freezes again, swap that stick with one of the others.
just a hardware change is all you need do, no need for further commands or testing - simply using the PC will do that for you!

Alright, it froze just now so I swapped the sticks and sprayed it down. Let’s see how this goes! I’ve only been using the first RAM slot/ports on my motherboard should I even bother testing the other slots? I just know If there’s a stick in the third slot my PC doesn’t even turn on
