    PC freezes randomly

    Hello together,

I hope you can help me with my problem!

    Current hardware:
    Processor (CPU): Intel i9-10850K
    Memory (RAM): 2x BALLISTIX 32GB DDR4 3600 Mhz w/XMP
    Motherboard: Z490 AORUS PRO AX
Power supply: Corsair RM850x 80 Plus Gold

    Problem description

The computer ran for 5 months under Ubuntu 20.04 without problems in continuous operation until it is frozen at once.
Image was still present, however, entering through the mouse or Keyboard without any responding.

After a restart the problem has not been solved and the computer freezes arbitrarily.
Also when I start from a live USB operating system I’m facing the same issue.
A specific application that forces the computer to freeze does not seem to exist and it happens sometimes in very short intervals (1-2 minutes) and sometimes the computer also runs through days. But the problem will definitely come up again sooner or later.

    I only connected the following:
    [ul]
    [li]Mouse[/li][li]Keyboard[/li][li]Monitor (internal hdmi)[/li][li]LAN[/li][/ul]

I have already taken the following steps to find the problem
    [ul]
[li]BIOS Update[/li][li]Ubuntu newly installed/updated (the operating system or on the disk doesn’t seems to be the problem)[/li][li]Memory tested (memtest86 ran threw without error)[/li][li]Memory individually installed and tested in different slots[/li][li]XMP on/off[/li][li]logs (but unfortunately it seems that the computer is no longer able to write messages away when the error occurs)[/li][/ul]

Now I almost assume that it is either the CPU or the motherboard itself.
Do you have any idea what else could be tested or might be the problem?

    Thank you in advance!

    Greet
    Marvin

have you tried running from a Live USB stick AND disconnecting the internal HDD?
I’m wondering if the drive is the reason.

Yes, tried about an hour ago. Same issue. I’ve also tried to use an older psu, but unfortunately it was to weak with only 400watts and the pc wasn’t able to make it beyond the boot screen.

It pretty strange because it happens so random. I’ve also played around with the cpu voltage and activated only two cores. But still the same issue..

I really don’t know what to do

Try restoring the MBs default factory settings in the BIOS, they are sometimes listed as one of the following " factory defaults" “most stable” or on newer boards “optimized” please note that if you have both the “most stable” and the “optimized” options in the BIOS you should choose the most stable" option as in this instance the “optimized” settings are a form of overclocking that can cause instability.

There is more but the outcome of the above may give us a clue (y)

Thanks for getting in touch as well!

Unfortunately there is only the option „load optimized defaults“. I’ll attach some pictures how it look like. After applying this defaults, the system freezes as well.

I‘ve also cleared CMOS and at the first start the BIOS told me that it was reseted and was set to default. Not quite sure if any settings were changed but I‘m still running into the same issue.

Manually set the RAM voltage to 1.35V and the speed to 2933MHz.

If still the same issue/s, try temporarily installing Windows 10 and the chipset drivers for the MB.
