So my dad bought this prebuilt PC back in 2012. Its a Lenovo IdeaCentre K430. We’ve been using it for FSX but we’re looking to try and upgrade it just a little. After looking into the specs and what not I see that maybe our best option is the Geforce 8800 series gpus but that seems too low I think. I’m not entirely sure what the MOBO can handle though. Does anyone here own this same PC or know if there’s a better option for me that doesn’t involve getting a complete new PC? The current gpu is a GT 620 and the MOBO is an MSI z75 MATX.

So other can assist let get a speccy report.
Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.
Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.
To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:
In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box. -
The PSU is an Intel I7-3770 and here’s the snapshot

How much money do you want to spend?
Rusty is correct you will need to boost your power supply.
I would also look at adding extra ram to 32gb. Either try and get two more matching 2 x 8gb
DRAM Frequency:
798.1 MHz
or buy 32GB DDR3memory - 1600MHz 4 x 8gb
as for graphics I would go for
NVIDIA® SLI, up to dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX660 1.5GB = 2 Graphics Cards see here Click on me
Does this computer go on the internet or is it just for gaming ? If just for gaming and no internet dump nortons.Comment

I think you should go to the nvida forums and ask about the card. I cannot find if this card supports sharder so you need to ask someone who uses the card if they can confirm it supports sharder - a must for the game.
Do you know anyone that is running the exact same game as you and are they getting better pic quality then you.
I just want something better than the GT 620 IF there is a nicer option that fits in this PC to see if I can give the Flight Sim a boost in performance.
The game is about 10 years old so you could spend all this money and find out the quality is the same. A better graphics card cannot give a better pic then what the pic is, Does that make sense?.
The game only needs a graphics card with 128MB Video ram you have much more then this already.
To boost performance start here Click on me
Does this look like your motherboard Click on me Sometimes Brand name machines Lenovo , Dell etc use OEM power supplies
so you need to make sure that the motherboard has standard ATX connections - A good pic says a lot and shows us a lot.
I notice you are also running Java I am still trying to find out if Java is needed for FSX. If not and you do not need it for other things remove it.
But do not remove it without checking first if it is a requirement for FSX.
Basically you could end up with a nice computer by upgrading the Ram and The Video and still have the same experience as you have now.
As for the Video card if you do upgrade no matter what make and model you buy it MUST support Sharder for your game to run.Comment

I stand corrected Pete. Apologize for the poor advice I provided. FSX doesn’t require Java though, just this addon
As far as Java is concerned I downloaded an Add On- ‘AI Carriers 2r2’ and in the read me file it stated that java was required.
Both from here Click on meComment

Thank you! I’ve left my fathers house for the week but I’ll make sure to get a picture next week. And in the mean time I’ll look into the setups other players are using and how it effects the game. I just figured that the main reason I was getting such a poor frame rate and high latency was because of the graphics card and because the desktop really wasn’t intended for gaming; But I’ll also read up on that FSX forum you linked earlier. My only question is:
