    Need advice about storage

    Hey all.

Okay, I have 5 storage drives in my system: 2x SSD’s in RAID Stripe 0, 2x WD Raptor HDD’s in RAID Stripe 0, and a 1 Tb SSD for data storage. Currently I’m running the SSD array as my c:\Windows10ame drive and installing games on my HDD array. It’s faster this way…at least for Windows, but recently I’ve been thinking that maybe it would be better to reverse it and use the HDD’s as my system drive…to hopefully reduce wear on the SSD’s? I don’t know. I keep thinking about it and since I can’t make up my mind I thought I would get some different viewpoints from people that probably know better.

let’s get the specs on those drives.
get Speccy from here; Speccy - Download Builds

in Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
now you can paste (Ctrl+V) that link into a post.

but SSD wear issues have long been a thin of the past.
there was the initial scare when they first appeared, but not anymore (depending on the age, make/model of your SSD’s).

if you want to increase your boot times by at least 4, going to HDD as your boot drive will certainly achieve this.

as most users do , I have the SSD as the primary drive because booting the PC and starting programs is multiple times faster.
and yes, to reduce wear, I then turn off prefetch, superfetch, event logging, kernel swapping, drive optimisation, hibernation etc because the very reason you use a SSD drive for, negates those old system processes. and things like Restore Points and pagefile can be reloacted away from the SSD as well.
