Have to unseat RAM to make PC boot

    Hi all,

I built a PC back in 2017 and it has worked damn year perfectly until the start of this year, when it has started to remain on a black screen when I turn it on. After lots of troubleshooting (and because I couldn’t find much conclusive evidence on the internet), I have discovered that I can get the PC to boot by:

    • Switch off PSU

    • Unseat/remove RAM

    • Start PC and wait for it to switch itself back off (because of no RAM)

    • Replace RAM

    • Start PC

    • PC will now boot normally

    I’m running a pretty regular setup - Core i7 4770, 16GB HyperX Fury DDR3 RAM, Gigabyte Z97P-D3 mobo.

Once the PC is up and running, it runs absolutely perfectly, it’s just the booting up that is the issue.

I’m assuming some kind of fault with the motherboard or RAM due to the workaround which I figured out.

    Any help appreciated !

leaving the RAM alone, have you tried turning it off, removing the power cord, turning it on (yes - without the power cord), then reconnecting the power and turning it on?
    see what happens.

This used to work. I would switch off the power from the PSU and then restart and it would work fine. Now it requires the RAM to be removed.
