Picture randomly shutting off

I was playing on my pc for a couple of hours and then all of a sudden the monitor went black however the pc was still on as the lights were on and i was still talking to my friend on discord. The monitor was still on but could not get signal. I tried to unplug the display port from both gpu and monitor and no change. The pc didn’t seem to be overheating either.
Specs are:
AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
Gigabyte 2070 super
16gb Corsair CMK16GX4M2A2400C
Corsair RM750
Samsung 860 Evo 1TB SSD
Lian Li Lancool 2 Mesh ATX Mid Tower
AOC Gaming Q27G2U 27”
3 fans in the case for intake and one 120mm fan for exhaust.
Fans are not pressed against a wall and have open air. Pc is on my desk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

is this the first time this has happened?
how old is the PC?
open up the case and check the dust build-up.
it may have been just the monitor, not the PC, any chance you can plug in another screen to test that theory?

to confirm any overheating, you’ll have to get a hardware/temperature monitoring program or quickly reboot when it happens and go into the BIOS settings and see what the temps are.

It happened in the past and it was more severe in the past (5 months ago) because it would disconnect in a matter of minutes. I done a thorough clean through and plugged everything back in and it seemed to work so i’m going to try that. The PC is only 8 months old and i done the temp monitoring the last time and that doesn’t seem to be an issue at all as i rarely ever go above 60°C on CPU or GPU. The worrying part is that this issue happened with a different monitor 5 months ago.

it’s good the PC is still under warranty, that’ll be a good Plan B if nothing else pans out.
was it a custom build from the shop, self build by you, or off the shelf purchase?

The monitor is fairly new, 4 months old. I built the PC myself. After it disconnect, I waited 5 minutes and it turned back on all fine and showed image therefore Im hoping it was possibly just a slight overheat or a build up of dust. I’m going to do a thorough clean through tonight but what is best to use? All I used before was pressurised air and a cloth to get the larger build ups of dust.

while dust buildup is a real concern and can lead to shorts (when the dust absorbs moisture) and heat (from the thermal mass of the dust), I find a common culprit for ‘shite happens’ is bad contacts.
that is, the GPU and RAM - take them out, wipe their contacts on the card and the mobo slots, clean the circuit boards and reseat.

of course, also clean the whole rig, compressed air does the job just fine, it’s just too expensive for me, especially when I have an air compressor in the garage. so I simply hit the whole internals full force with the air gun, holding any fan blades as their turn comes. don’t forget to aim inside the PSU as well!
