Lag spikes alongside CPU temp drops.

For the past few weeks, I have had weird lag spikes that coincide with CPU temperature drops, from around 65 to 48, when running anything vaguely intensive (e.g. games - ones that I used to be able to run fine).

Tbh I’m totally lost as to why these drops are occurring, especially considering that CPU usage doesn’t decrease while they’re occurring. I have no idea if the temperature is being decreased by a program, as the CPU does not seem to be running too hot (it never goes above 67). I’ve attached a speccy report and screenshot from MSI afterburner that shows the pattern. I’m new to posting here so let me know if I should provide more info or if I’m posting in the wrong thread.

      Hi,

I have the Corsair VS650 PSU. I have attached a screenshot of the specs on the corsair website, and the link.

The psu you have is just a basic psu.. If you have a app for testing voltage i would run it and then post that log.. It sounds like the psu is not supplying enough voltage to cpu, in which case it would show lower temps. Learned that from an old friend on the old pchf..

Ok so it turns out that about a year ago I undervolted my CPU to deal with overheating (since then i have bought new fans and figured out how to dust my pc lmao so not an issue anymore) and totally forgot about it! Your suggestion that it might be due to PSU led me to go into the BIOS and reset everything and it’s now running smoothly !! I can’t believe I didn’t check this in the first place, but thank you so much for your help.

So yeah, turns out this issue isn’t fixed… Since removing the undervolt it’s a lot better than before but I’m still seeing temperature dips. I downloaded a voltage monitor and my vCORE fluctuates from around 1.3V to 0.8V during lag spikes, so it’s definitely related to voltage…

Could it be that my PSU is not plugged in properly to my CPU? Or is it worth looking into buying a new one?

Here is an issue I have found
                  Driver Booster Scheduler
                  Driver Booster SkipUAC (bitesizing)
                  Driver Booster SkipUAC (rodsa)
                  Driver Booster Update
You shouldn’t use any “Driver Updater” programs. These kind of programs are completely useless on top of being harmful. If you need to download drivers for a device, download them straight from that computer manufacturer website or the device manufacturer website. This will ensure that you have legitimate and working drivers.

                  Read through here.
Page 1 of 2 - Pros and Cons of Driver Booster 2 ? - posted in All Other Applications: What are the Pros & Cons of Driver Booster 2 ?   Is it safe to be used by a somewhat computer illiterate person , if safe at all ?   Is it reliable ?   Is there any known problems to it or but use of it ?   Would you use it ? If not , then why and what is your best alternative ?

Have you checked you internet speeds during the day?

Huh interesting, okay that’s great info, I’ll uninstall driver booster. Is there any way to reset drivers or to look for ones which might be relevant to voltage (to update manually?)

Also, if it is my PSU, do you guys know what I’m best off doing next… I’d rather not just buy a new one without trying some other stuff first

                      Go to the manufacture site.

If this is a prebuilt system (Dell, Acer, Asus) then go to their site and get the drivers form there remember to install the Motherboard Chipset driver first then the rest in the proper order.

Some system(s) have a factory restore that will put the computer back to a out of the box state. Back up your personal files.

Once you get the system cleaned up and do not use crap ware to keep it up to date it might fix the current issue that you are having.

As far as the PSU see if this helps.
