    To help people to be able to assist, you need to provide the following information;

    Your maximum budget.

    The intended use of the computer.

    The complete specs of the present hardware and which items of the hardware you would like to keep.

    Important note, if you change the MB you will have to purchase a new Windows product key if the one that is in use now is not the full retail type.

      Ok I have an HP Pavillion P6754y.

      Motherboard : Foxconn 2AB1 version 1
      Ram : 16 GB
      Hard Drive :1.5 TB
      Video Card : Nvidia GeForce GT 710 2GB
      Processor : AMD Athlon II X4 640
      OS :Windows 10 Home 64 bit

      I would really like to go to a six core.

      Budget? I’m really looking for the least expensive and make my way up if there is more than 1 choice.

      Intended use? Mostly gaming. ( I know What I currently have can run Baldurs gate3 but it’s on a very low setting and I would really like it to be a bit higher resolution lol.)

      If I have to start over and build a new pc that’s ok. I’ll just have to do it 1 or 2 pieces at a time. Lol.
      Thank You in advance for any help.

        that motherboard has a very limited number of AMD 6 core processors that are compatible.
        and getting your hands on a new Phenom II X6 95watt processor will be impossible, even second hand may be difficult.

        I’d be thinking you’d be up for a new motherboard, which would force the upgrade of the processor (something you were doing any ways), and maybe new DRR4 memory.

        in other words, we are now talking a good chunk of time and money that possiblely may be better allocated to simply getting another PC and relegating this one to the kids.

          Yeah I found a
          AMD Phenom II X6 1055T HDT55TFBGRBOX AM3 PIB 2.8GHz, 45nm, 125W Processor. After installing it I found out from a friend of mine about the whole 95 watt vs. 125 watt thing. Very discouraging because It went in easier than I expected and I thought wow I actually accomplished something I never thought I could do. So, other than miraculously finding a 95 watt, Can I build one by the piece? Or am I better off just trying to find a new one? I don’t care if by the piece is more expensive I just want a better, faster rig to enjoy higher end games on. Can you recommend a website or another forum where someone can walk me through it in “ baby steps” ? LOL

            I just found one at Newegg.com

            AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 6-Core 2.8GHz (3.3GHz Turbo Boost) Socket AM3 95W HDT55TWFK6DGR Desktop Processor.

            it says “ recertified” so I guess that means used. Would that be ok as long as the pins are undameged?

              this is from the Foxconn website specs for the 2AB1;

              AMD Six-Core CPU Support:
              • Phenom II X6 1065T 2900MHz – 95W
              • Phenom II X6 1055T 2800Mhz – 95W
              • Phenom II X6 1045T 2700Mhz – 95W
              • Phenom II X6 1035T 2600Mhz – 95W

              so the one you mention should be compatible.
              not sure what recertified means, but yeah, almost guarantee it’ll be used.
