    HDD causing lags on boot.

    So recently my PC had this period where it’s partially unresponsive.
    It boots quickly to desktop in less than 30 seconds because the OS is installed on a SSD. But after it gets to desktop interface I can’t open any program other than explorer or anything that’s installed in the HDD, if i do open the HDD contents the system will totally freeze for a few seconds-minute.

    At first i thought it was because i installed too much startup apps in the HDD, but after formatting the disk, the problem still occurs. I tried switching the HDD to confirm that it was the source of the problem. And yes, the HDD is the source of the problem because after i remove/switch it there’s no lag/freeze whatsoever.

    The HDD i used is Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm. I don’t know to find the official site for the spec and this is the best i can show HDD.
    Also here’s some “fix” that i found :
    If i leave the pc for up to 1½minute it will load normally.
    If i let the pc stayed on bios menu for a few moments, it wont lag.

    After the initial lag, the performance is normal, the HDD got no problem other than the slow start. Also on restart/safe mode, this problem doesn’t exist.

    Is there a way to fix this? Because it’s already past the warranty period(2years), i checked the HDD and it has over 6k hours active time on crystal disk or should i just bear with it?

    Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

      Here is the speccy result Speccy
      The PSU that I currently use is Deepcool DN500 with 500W and Standard 80+ rating.

      Other than the issue i mentioned in the post, my pc never ran into any problem.

        Update : The issue does not happen100% of the time, but it happens frequently which is more confusing. Earlier today it doesn’t lag at start, but just now I started my PC and it loads slowly again.

          Most likely the cause of your problem/s;

          Network
          You are not connected to the internet
          Computer Name
          NetBIOS Name: DESKTOP-MVUKH64
          DNS Name: DESKTOP-MVUKH64
          Membership: Part of workgroup
          Workgroup: WORKGROUP
          Remote Desktop

          Being part of a workgroup but Windows not being able to auto connect is not a good idea and neither is Windows not being allowed to check for updates on boot.

            what’s your suggestion on this then?
            Should I setup a wired network or change some configuration?

            By the way I never touched this work group setting from the first time I installed windows.

              So, after you mentioned something about network.
              I realized that I didn’t remove USB Wifi adapter from the PC when troubleshooting, turns out it was the real culprit.
              I tried booting without it for a few times and there’s no more unresponsive issue.

              I checked the driver and it is the latest available. So i guess it’s just the low manufacturing/quality issue. And because of it, boot sequence got slow.
              I will boot without it for the next few days to confirm if it’s really the cause.

              By the way, was there similar issue like this before where some components are too slow and hinder the whole PC performance?

              This is the thing I have : USB Wifi Adapter

              Do you think I should ask for replacement? Would it make a difference? it’s still in warranty because i bought it pretty recently.

                Yes they are crap. They use low power and have a short range unlike the built in WiFi cards and some that have external antennas.

                  Two things to make sure of when you use such an adaptor;

                  It must not be enabled as a boot device in the BIOS.

                  The device must be used in one of the black USB 2.0 ports if you leave it in the PC full time.
