PC Specs
-CPU - Intel i9-10900KF 3.70GHz (No integrated graphics)
-Storage - 1x 3tb HDD (Seagate)
1x 480gb M.2 SSD (Corsair)
2x 1tb SSD (Samsung 870)
-Memory - 32gb (4x8gb) DDR4-3000MHz (Corsair Vengeance)
-Motherboard - ASUS Prime Z490-V ATX
-Power Supply - Corsair RM750 80 Plus Gold (750W)
-Video Card - GeForce RTX 3080 10gb GDDR6X (GIGABYTE Gaming OC)
I wanna start off with stating that I really don’t know too much about PC’s when it really comes down to it. I have general knowledge about things but that’s about it. With that being said, if I missed anything in the specs area, please let me know and I will edit it accordingly.
Background
So back in October of 2020, I decided to order a new PC, and due to my work situation at the time I wouldn’t have much time to build it myself. I decided to order a custom build off of CyberPower with the specs above. About 4-5 months later, I finally received my build after some hair pulling and frustrations due to out of stock parts and waiting. The first couple of days after receiving the PC were fine. I was mainly playing World of Warcraft at the time, so nothing TOO extreme.
Issues
So issues began to arise not too long after the statement above. First, when playing a game, no matter what it was, World of Warcraft, Valorant, Call of Duty, my display would randomly start to flicker and 90% of the time this would cause my display to go out completely, my peripherals would turn off but the PC itself would stay running. At this point I would have to either press the restart button on my PC or hold my power button until it turned off. This pretty much happened every time I would play a game, and needless to say it was pretty frustrating. Also, at this time, VERY rarely, when I would try to turn on the PC all the RGB on the PC itself would turn on, fans would start up, but my peripherals and my display would not turn on. The fans would also run pretty hard. I would have to turn the PC on and off repeatedly until it decided to boot properly, and when it did, most of the time, it would boot into safe mode, also, it would occasionally boot and bring up the drive repair screen where it would scan and repair my drive. This issue began happening more and more over time. I wasnt sure what the issue was here but I figured I would try switching which PCIe slot I was using, even though I know the top slot is the optimum slot to be using, and this worked for about a month or so but the same issues started up again. I figured it was a GPU or PCIe slot issue since switching slots worked for a bit. I ended up getting a GPU braket to give it a bit of support, and this also worked for about a month but recently, it began having the same issues and even worse than before. It also got the the point where it was happening as soon as I would boot and get onto my desktop screen, and also when I would be on Chrome watching twitch or youtube.
Possibilities
From what I’ve read on other forums, people are having similar issues and its usually has to do with the 3080 cards, but the issues aren’t exactly the same as mine. I’ve read it could have to do with the PSU, and it not having a high enough wattage to support the 3080, I don’t know if that’s true, but Nvidia states on their site that 750W is the minimum needed to support a 3080, so I don’t know if that would be the cause. I have also heard it could be a driver issue but I’ve done a clean reinstall of everything and have tried using older drivers for the GPU, but to no avail.
I will include a video of the issues with booting, and will try to get a video of when my display flickers and that stuff.
