GPU not as fast as use to be

    Hi all. Thanks for reading.

My gpu isn’t working like it used to. My PC specs are as follows.

    I59400
    MSI rx570 8gb
    16 GB Corsair vengeance ram
    Asus tuf b365 MOBO
    750 watt kratos ps
    1 TB Western m2 ssd

I use to be able to run black ops cold war at a solid 60 fps at 2560*1440 with high settings. Now it struggles to get 55 fps at 1080 at medium. I tried reinstalling drivers and many other tips online. I even did a clean install of windows. Nothing will work. I took it out and dusted my PC interior as well as the card. Barely any dust at all. I’m at my wits end as to what the problem could be. Has anyone any advice or been through the same problem ?

    Thanks

Hi. I noticed windows had more updates so installed those this morning. I understand what the article was saying but I don’t know how to go about it. I even did a clean install yesterday. I even downloaded the optional updates. Sorry for being a goon with all this. But the update thing didn’t seem to help. It has to be some bad file or something somewhere. The computer processes everything else fine except when I game. Could you tell me what steps to take to try this out? Not really sure if I did anything right

I’ve tried everything but canned air which is coming today or tomorrow. Even did a bios update and updated all my other drivers too. Gonna do a deep clean but it doesn’t look temp related but probably needs done anyways. After a deep clean I’m out of options. From what I can see during play it’s as if the PC can’t get the same amount of power. No screen tearing. Just can’t keep up. I get 70 fps average at 1080 but it fluctuates up and down so bad that I get stutters and crap performance. I use to get a practically solid 60 fps at 1440 and a very smooth mostly flawless experience. Will update again once I do a deep clean

Not very demanding when it comes to wattage but you should not use anything less than a Gold efficiency rated PSU on a PC intended for gaming or demanding video editing etc, Bronze and below rated PSUs are only intended for PCs that only have integrated graphics or the most basic of add on video card for school or office type work.

Budget brand of PSU that you can get on ebay for the price of a years AV protection, do the cleaning and if that does not help any look to getting a decent PSU that is able to support all of your hardware when it is under load.

Was this the online multiplayer or the offline first person shooter version, if the former, are the other games involved also played online.

              Hi
According to what I’ve read online my previous experience playing that game online was expected performance. 1440 p at high settings. So I was getting what was expected of my processor and card for multiplayer.

I’m planning on upgrading in the future to a 3070. Would you recommend a 850w gold brand name psu? Or would a 750 w gold do?

Do you think my psu is failing? Even playing my old game Titan quest, it has its stutters and lags now and then. The game is 15 years old or so lol. I also play bannerlord and I have fps swings and stutters on that as well at 1080.

Just a bit of an update. I took my cpu with cooler off the board. It still has some thermal paste left but it’s very thin. I used a vacuum and blew the dust out of it. It dropped my cpu temp from 80 83 down to 60 and 65 celsius. Which is great. But it’s made no difference to my gaming. Even my idle temp at windows went from 60 65 down to 40 45 celsius. Looks like it need that for sure. But it surely looks like this issue is not temp related. Hopefully soon I can get a new gold psu and see if the better conductivity helps. I’m also going to invest in a better cpu cooler and get some new paste. Just not sure how a clean PC can perform so well and now it can’t with no hardware changes. My card and processor calls for 200 to 300 fps on counter strike 1080 and I get 100 to 200 1080. I tried fallout New Vegas yesterday as well and it struggles especially between menus and loading. Drops down to 12 fps. Same on Titan quest. Both old games.

                  Hi.
I did a deep clean today. All fans, MOBO, psu, GPU,cpu.

No difference at all in gaming performance so I’m assuming it’s a blend between maybe a failing psu and or cpu. Im out of options and ideas. I’ll just have to bite the bullet and upgrade as I go.

Thanks everyone for all your advice/help. I’ll invest in a better gold psu and eventually update cpu and GPU.

                  Thanks again
