Apart from the free storage space that Windows and Windows Defender need to be able to install updates Windows also needs a fair amount of free space for what is called File Swapping, if there is not enough room for this things get overwritten which = corruption which in turn leads to all sorts of hardware and software problems.
Your new Speccy report is telling us that you have not changed the Windows Power Plan to Balanced.
Now that you have the free storage space available you need to get Windows fully up to date.
Unless urgent can you not reply until it is to post a Speccy url that shows that the Power Plan has been changed and that Windows is fully up to date.Comment

That looks a lot better (y)
Before we go any further, would you be ok with using just the 8GB for the rest of the day as what will be suggested next will mean leaving the PC disconnected from the mains power over night with the CMOS battery removed from the MB.Comment

Please, no need to quote
Use the computer for the rest of the day.
Once you are done, shut Windows down as you normally would, isolate the PC from the mains electric by disconnecting it from the wall socket.
Press the case power button for 20 to 30 seconds to get rid of any residual charge in the MB.
Remove the CMOS battery from the MB and put it somewhere safe overnight.
Tomorrow, put the CMOS battery back in.
Insert the second stick of RAM, reassemble, power up to see if there is any change in the behaviour.
Post back with an update when you are ready.
What we are trying to do with the above is to clear any possible bad BIOS settings and to do this we need to make sure that there is no charge in the system whatsoever, if it doesn’t work we will move on to testing your both sticks of RAM as best we can, steps for this as and when/if required.Comment

Sorry didn’t mean to quote and thank you for the help I will do as you said and report back tomorrowComment

Will look out for your update tomorrow, I`m in the UK so no rush, the longer the battery is out the better.
You are welcome btwComment

FYI using just one stick of RAM does not reduce your PC to 50 percent lower. In the real world this will reduce you about 5-10 percent. But use two sticks if you can. Like what was said, use one 8GB stick till you buy another. It will be there when you buy another MB or fix this one. You should run Defender even if you have bought Norton. You will also find that is near impossible to delete Norton ever, even when your subscription runs out. Takes a full fresh install.
You also should buy a small SSD (cheap) just to install your OS on.
Can I ask if you just got this for Xmas, was it you who filled up your HDD? Did you get this PC freshly reformatted? If the answer is you got it like this, then a fresh install is needed, and it might fix your problems as well.
If you take the battery out, flick the PSU with cord out, off and on a few times to help drain your capacitorsComment

Hackerballs,
You have come to the dining table while we are washing up the dishes and putting them away.

What was said and explained as to why was the difference between RAM working in single channel mode as opposed to dual channel mode, my maths is not brilliant but does 50% of 2400MHz not =1200MHz because that is what the OPs RAM is running at in single channel mode with the one stick of RAM in the board.Comment

Yeah it was me who filled up the hdd like that I appreciate the replies I’m just gonna use it for now and take the cmos out tonight I really think it’s an issue with the ram slot though so I think I’m gonna have to buy a new board I have a quick question about buying a board though if I get one does it exactly have to support 2400mhz speed or can the board just support 3000mhz speed I’m a little confused about this since all these motherboards support different speeds some only saying the support one compared to othersComment

We are hoping to be able to avoid the need for a new MB so be patient and stick to our game plan.
If one does turn out to be needed you will have no problem replacing the board.Comment
