How to find where ram is being used

When looking at the system specs of my pc, it shows I have 8.00 GB installed and 6.94 GB usable).
How can I find where the 1 GB is being used?

The system itself will be using the other 1.6GB of RAM, Windows services being the biggest user.

To check such thing use Task Manager, then click on the memory tab and then the processes tab, once done leave thing be for a moment to settle down and you will then see the biggest users at the top of the list.

Oh ok. Thanks. So if I want to play a game that requires 8GB, I am going to have to buy another 8GB ram?

There is no single answer to such a question I`m afraid.

Any program will have both a minimum and a recommended requirement and if a game says it requires 8GB of RAM and you have two 4GB sticks of RAM you will be fine as the RAM is able to work in dual channel which makes the RAM more efficient, if however you only have a single 8GB stick of RAM it can only work in single channel which is 50% of the speed it will work in dual channel and this makes the RAM less efficient and any game may struggle to play with the slower RAM.

Upgrading your system to 16 GB of RAM will improve performance especially if a portion of your RAM is being used by your integrated video chip.

We are not sure if the max amount of RAM your system can support is 8 GB’s or higher than that. Having an APU which includes an integrated video chip will use a chunk of your RAM as its own dedicated video memory which will leave you with less overall system RAM to use for applications and games. Is the computer a pre-built computer or a custom built system?

So I’ve found out I have Dual ram, which mean 2x4, I presume. Can I buy another 2 2x4 ram to add to my pc? Thanks

Yes you can as long as you have 4 memory slots on your motherboard then you can install 4 4 GB memory modules to get 16 GB’s of RAM.
