I haven’t tried to run the heavier programs since updating Windows.. I think I’d like to get the chipset drivers set up as you recommended as the crashing is so frequent. One thing I’ve noticed that might speak to what you refered to as Windows’ generic drivers is when I woke up my PC this morning, it for about 5+ seconds had a scrambled screen which I had never seen before.

Anothr note perhaps worth mentioning is that my GPU software is seeing my CPU as the absolute minimum for more than one of the programs that has been running when the hardware failures occur. Maybe time for an upgrade?

Lets see what drivers are presently installed;

Download and run DriverView which you can get from here

Save the results to text and attach to your next reply for us if you will.

Sorry if this is not the right format. Saving as text made it a bit harder to look at.

Sorry.. that was saved as a text. I meant *that was harder to look at, but tbh I think im not running it properly. Attaching a screenshot of what I see through the DriverView app. Is that the what I should be saving from? Look right?

That’s the one (y)

It will take me ten minutes or so to go through after which I will come back and edit this post, can you not reply meanwhile.

Edit to add: Not seeing any chipset or smbus drivers there so suggest that you do the following;

Create a new folder on your desktop and name it drivers.

Save to to the new folder the chipset drivers from here

Create a new system restore point.

Restart in Safe Mode only and install the chipset drivers that you saved.

Restart the computer, test by using the computer as you normally would, post back with an update when you are ready.

Thank you. Question: it says it’s installing AMD chipset drivers but that “The windows installer service is not accessible in safe mode ..” and I’m not seeing a definitive progress bar on the install dialogue. Just a green dash going back and forth on the bottom of the window. Is performing this in normal mode too risky?

Yes go ahead, some installers wont work in safe mode but things tend to work out better when they do.

I’ve installed the AMD chipset package. To clarify, I need every driver on that Windows 10 list correct? There are 10 more not in beta..

No, just the chipset driver as Windows has already taken care of the rest.

Just road test now.

Just ran a 20 minute race in the most demanding of my sims and saw a 1-2 degree Celsius difference lower than previous so that’s looking good. Not sure heat played a role in the failures (never saw my GPU above 88c) but it seems like that could indicate the power might be running a bit more efficiently. It will take time so I’ll run these programs for the rest of the week or until another crash and report back. Whatever happens though, my software was obviously in need of a tune up so again, I really appreciate your observations and time, @phillpower2.

To make sure they are in fact installed properly: I went to my device manager to make sure the drivers were installed and running. Both of the AMD PCI categories were ok but saw this message on the SMBus, crash defender, GPIO Controller perhaps a couple more.. “Device {xyz} requires further installation.” Can only assume these drivers are as it says, not installed. But in the device status, it says this device is working properly? This is confusing.

Thanks,
Alex

You cannot measure the temps inside of the PSU and the High Performance setting that you had is guaranteed to heat things up inside the PSU.

Golden rule #1, if a computer is running ok you should leave well alone so please do.

Once Windows has been installed, you install the necessary drivers for the MB and other hardware and then leave well alone, drivers should not be allowed to auto update and you should never update any driver/s unless the new drivers are intended to resolve a specific issue that you are having, installing new drivers unnecessarily can actually cause you the very issues that any new drivers are intended to resolve and uninstalling the new drivers may not resolve the problem/s that installing the new drivers has caused.

Depending on priority it can take many months before the driver provider releases any fix and depending on the age of the hardware or software concerned they sometimes do not even bother or may have already announced an end of support.

Gotcha. I wont touch it further if those messages do not sound like a problem to you.

And understand regarding the abandoned threads. That should really be enough time to see if these updates fixed my situation.

All the best, A
