Hi everyone

Just joined this forum.

Before I ask my question, am I allowed to post links to hard drive that I want to swap (move) from my AIO to laptop?

Your Lenovo computer has an Optane memory model and not an SSD, they look similar but Optane is only meant to be used as an accelorator to speed up boot times, as long as the key type matches the slot on the Dell I see no reason why it would not work but there are two things to consider first, the data on the Optane memory is specific for the Lenovo and would need formatting before fitting it into the Dell and you need to confirm that the Dell is Optane capable first.

Thanks for the information.

I don’t mind reformatting the entire drive. Worst case scenario, If I am not successful, would be the cheapest option: Purchase an external 1TB hard drive and add it to the existing Dell laptop (currently the laptop only has 240gb). What do you think?

Sorry but it is not a drive and even if it was it only has a capacity of 16GB which means that you could only use circa 13GB of the space before the data started getting corrupted, see screenshot from your Lenovo specs and primarily the info that has been highlighted.

Now that makes sense now.

I got mixed up assuming that 1tb was an SSD.

So I can’t install the 1TB SATA mechanical drive from the Lenovo into the Dell 7400?

Nope, your Dell can only accommodate the one NVMe type of SSD.

Easiest solution is to get yourself an external USB HDD and leave the HDD in the Lenovo.

Is there much difference in terms of longevity between an internal SATA and external SATA HDD ?

You can`t really compare the two tbh as an internal drive gets used every time that the PC boots up whereas an external drive only gets used when you access it.

Just be sure to avoid any new Seagate HDD and you will be fine, Western Digital Caviar Black are what I use in builds.
