Desktop used to Power Up but Won't Anymore

    Hello everyone,

I’ll do my best to explain my issue as clearly as possible.

    1. Description of Desktop Computer:

    Windows: Windows 10

    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 940MX

Power Outlet for GPU: Master Watt 750 Cooler Master

I’d like to say more but since I can’t turn on the computer, I can’t check the system for details, sorry.

    2. Description of the Issue:

The desktop used to power up fine until about two months ago. It sometimes wouldn’t start. I would then unplug my GeForce and plug it back and then it would boot.

This went on for a month or so until it just wouldn’t start at all.

    3. Other Potentially Important Details:
    • The graphic card barely fits.
    • The graphic card would sometimes get so hot I couldn’t touch it with my bare hands after the computer was off if I wanted to unplug it.
    • As far as I know the fans are all working when the computer is on but the graphic card still gets really hot.

    4. Some Pictures:

    Hello Zika,

The 940MX is a notebook video chip and not an add on GPU.

We can see an onboard video port on the back of the PC, remove the add on video card from the PC altogether, make sure that everything inside the case is nice and secure, hook your screen up to the onboard video port, reassemble, cross your fingers then see if you can power up.

Fwiw, small wonder that this has gone wrong on you, a badly fitted GPU and a poor quality PSU are a recipe for disaster I`m afraid

So I disassembled everything I could and took some more pictures, hopefully it can help:

Those are the things I took out from the computer.

This is the end which was plugged into the motherboard.

This is the back of the power supply, will all the cables removed.

A screenshot with less clutter around.

Another screenshot with the power supply removed.

What is the bare minimum I should plug in to attempt a launch? Hard drive to power supply, power supply to motherboard…?[/IMG]

The recommended steps were provided in my reply #2 but you have gone ahead and partially dismantled the whole PC, you will need to wait and see if anyone else chimes in as I am only prepared to help those that work with us to resolve their issue/s.

        Good luck.

          I understand, that’s a fair expectation.

hook your screen up to the onboard video port, reassemble, cross your fingers then see if you can power up.

I don’t know where that is on the motherboard. Would it be identified somewhere?

You have replies on at least one other forum so this thread will be closed.

We are always happy to help when we can but we cannot safely do so if you are already receiving assistance on any other forum, doing so may lead to confusion as to whose and what guidance you are following which can be both dangerous and costly/

            Thank you for your understanding.
