GPU buzzing noise? Please help

Anyone able to help me with this noise? It started a few days ago I believe it is coming from the graphics card as I’ve ran the pc without it in and it doesn’t make the noise, also taken the power supply out and couldn’t hear the noise from it. I don’t think it is the fans as the noise is still present when they aren’t spinning. Maybe a coil whine but doesn’t seem like it’s that as it is low frequency and a buzzing type sound. Any help would be appreciated thankyou.

As you are already aware it is a difficult job trying to pinpoint such a sound when you are right next to it so it is nigh on impossible to determine what it is from an online video I`m afraid

Hi, thankyou for the reply. The PSU is a Aerocool 600W as for the GPU it is a 5600XT not sure how to find model numbers? I did actually take the PSU out of the case and ran the PC listened for the noise coming from it and couldn’t hear it.

Not a good brand of PSU I`m afraid, bad brand and if you check the links in my sig you will see that it is on the avoid list, short version, it should not be used anywhere near an add on GPU.

Any decent add on GPU like the one that you have must be supported by a minimum of a Gold efficiency rated PSU, Bronze or below are only designed for entry level desktops that only have integrated graphics or the most basic of add on GPU.

Other consideration here are;

How old is the PSU, the longest warranty period they have is three years.

The brand of the GPU makes a difference, some 5600XT GPUs require more power than others.

I did actually take the PSU out of the case and ran the PC listened for the noise coming from it and couldn’t hear it.

Was this while the GPU was still in the board and therefore drawing power from the PSU.

Okay I see so, the graphics card is by power color and the PSU is no more than 6 months old. Would you suggest buying a new powersupply or too soon to say that is the problem? Thanks again.
Also yes the GPU was still in the board the noise came from behind the graphics card still potentially a PSU issue?

Too soon to say on the PSU but I do 100% suggest that even if not found to be the cause you replace it with an appropriate PSU asap.

Not sure what you mean by “the noise came from behind the graphics card” do you mean the card itself or an area of the case, if the case, have you checked for anything being loose and vibrating/rattling.

Being a PowerColor GPU it may have a switch on it for the fan settings, one for overclockers and one for sensible users, while the PC is shutdown and disconnected from the wall socket, ground yourself by touching something metal, check for an OC switch on the GPU, if present, move the switch to the other position, check for anything loose inside the case, reassemble, test then post back with an update for us.

If no joy, the next step is to do a barebones set up outside of the case, we will post the steps for that if needs be.

Either the area behind the card or the card it’s self hard to tell even using a rolled up piece of paper. I changed the switch to silent as it was on OC and the noise is still present. Nothing loose in the case around that area to be catching on fans, and the noise isn’t there when the fans aren’t spinning. I don’t think it is my CPU cooler as I’ve stopped the fan momentarily and the noise was still there.

Hmm, if you are getting noises and suffering FPS since the noise started the problem is more serious than just a noise.

The PSU is still under warranty but what about the GPU?

I bought them from Amazon so unable to return them to there, have tried to contact powercolor already haven’t had a response yet. Will have to get hold of Aerocool. Would you say it isn’t safe to run my pc and any suggestions?

Not sure what if any response you will get from Aerocool as they are most unlikely to come out and say that their PSUs are basically rubbish.

Question, does your MB have onboard graphics, if unsure, let us know what CPU and MB you have.

Typical of some of these companies unfortunately. It doesn’t as far as I’m aware as I’ve tried to boot the pc without the graphics card and got no display however I have a ASUS ROG Strix B450-F and a Ryzen 5 3600.

Unfortunately the Ryzen 5 3600 does not have any on die video which is what MBs like yours need to be able to provide it, Ryzen CPUs are great I will always pay more for an Intel build so as to have the safety net of onboard graphics to fall back on.

Below are the steps for the barebones set-up, no rush getting back to us as I`m off to wash the car

Best couple of suggestions I can make would be first remove the MB and do a barebones set-up on a piece of cardboard (make sure it is larger than the MB) only connect the PSU, the GFX card, screen, 1 stick of RAM and the keyboard.

IF your MB doesn`t have a power test switch you will then need to short out the 2 power on pins on the MB header to get the PSU to activate, you can use a small flat bladed screwdriver or a paper clip bent into a U shape, this is perfectly safe if you do not touch anything else, the idea is to see if we can get a BIOS screen if you do you can then add one component at a time until you find the problem component/noise, [COLOR=rgb(226, 80, 65)]you must power down and remove the power cord from the wall before adding another component
