    Unknown Device Intermittent USB issues

I had posted last month about intermittent audio issues, which I believe that I had discovered was due to hardware issues with my headset. Recently however I have had the same issues occur with both my mouse and my mic.

In my device manager I have an unknown device with a root of USB\AMDROOT_HUB31\5&6B2518F&0&0. I have reinstalled my chipset drivers and updated all of them. This has not solved the issue. I have read that this likely means I have a hardware issue.

As is not possible at this time for me to purchase a new motherboard, is there a way for me to verify my problem and perhaps avoid using the damaged USB ports in favor of those that might still be working?

what have you tried so far?

have you rebooted into Safe Mode?
have you created another logon user account and seen if it still happens there?
I assume you have tried different front and back USB ports?

if it truly is USB related, it should go away when you unplug the offending hardware, that is, the mouse, keyboard, external drive or what have you.
that will pinpoint the root cause.

So far I have done a clean install, switched usb ports, updated all my drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled software for my devices, reinstalled my chipset drivers and tested the headset and mouse on another computer.

Originally the only thing that stopped the issues was unplugging the headset, when this headset was tested on another computer it would have intermittent audio issues as well so I felt we had discovered the issue, however a month later my mouse began cutting out as well as my mic.

Currently I am using a different mouse and keyboard as my only usbs however it took about a month to begin seeing issues with my mouse so I’m not sure how easy it will be to test which ports are working. I am also worried that this may be causing damage to my devices.

try the new account and Safe Mode options - if for no other reason than it may help narrow down the options.
have you looked into the USB ports to check for any mangled pins?
and when you did the clean install, did you notice the USB issue before you started reloading all your software? also a slim chance, but maybe another software or driver is casing the issue.

otherwise all I have left is a faulty motherboard.

I will try the safe mode but I checked the ports themselves and there didn’t seem to be any damage. I had read somewhere that it’s possible for the connection between the usb and the motherboard to have issues but I’m wasn’t sure what I was looking for last I checked.

the USB ports on the back of the PC are directly soldered to the motherboard, the front ones have a cable that joins the motherboard to the ports, so check both ends of that cable to see it is secure.
otherwise check inside the USB access cavity and see if any pins have been dislodged and are touching either other or touching the outside metal jacket of the port.
