    Managing Two Hard Drives

I have one 256GB SSD and one 1TB HDD on my new Dell Windows 10 desktop. I have the OS loaded on the SSD along with widely use Apps like MS office, my mail handler, etc. and have attempted to set options so than any additional Apps and all Data files be loaded on my larger HDD as is generally recommended. Loading anything new is a fight to force it onto my HDD and often it is also loaded on my SSD as well?? Two new folders have mysteriously appeared on my HDD - Program Files (where I have force loaded new Apps) and Window Apps which I am not allowed to read (a no-no according to Dell Support - then what’s it doing there I ask, getting no answer). I actually loaded an App into Window Apps only to not be able to read if it was actually there?? Dell Support hasn’t been much help - they don’t understand written or spoken English very well and I can’t seem to communicate my problem. Can anyone help or is there some on-line information that I have missed? Thanks for any help.

yeah sorry, no real help from me on this one.
changing the default installation location away from C:\ drive sometimes isn’t even presented as an option.
and when it is, certain portions of the install still go to C:\ anyway.

if you are seeing D:\ (or whatever your HDD is labelled as) and Program Files on that, then that is to be expected as the install process would still keep the folder structure despite the change of drive.

I’m not sure how to explain the Window Apps folder except it seems to ring a small bell and I think it was back in the days of Win8 and Metro Apps.

Thanks, Dell Support after considerable stumbling around, was finally able to change permissions on WindowsApps so that I could finally look at it and remove it since it turned out to be empty. It has not returned. So now, when I download a new APP, I simply change the destination Drive from C: (my smaller SSD) to D: (my larger HDD) and as you say most of the App fles are downloaded there. I have downloaded all of my Data files (docs, photos, vids, music, etc.) to my D: drive with no problems so it seems to be working out. VERY disappointed with Dell to whom I foolishly paid for one extra year support. Forced into “Pakistani Hell” with someone I can barely understand and who barely understand me and has to repeatedly confer with another “senior” Tech to further delay questionable help when I finally do get it. Think I’m better off on this forum or simplying Google-ing for an answer…

Not yet, interested to see how others handle multiple drive file organization. With multiple internal HDs becoming more common, especially on Game PCs, I’d think this would be a Hot topic.

I simply change the location of my Docs, Pics, Vids, Music, Downloads, and Desktop folders to point to my second drive, a HDD.
I still let any installs go to the primary drive, a SSD. since I don’t play games I have no large Program Files folders to worry about. Office, Adobe etc aren’t that big that it impacts too much on my 256GB SSD. and they are so cheap now, I’d just get a 512GB or larger if ever I needed to.
