Help! New ram causes POST failure

I recently bought 2 x 8gb ram sticks for my pc. Upon installing them and trying to boot, I get a black screen. Also, the green power light is replaced by a red light, and the computer makes 5 consecutive beeping noises, pauses, and repeats. Apparently this indicates a ‘system failure’ according to this website https://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm (idk what it means lol). When I replace the new sticks with my old, singular 4gb stick, everything works normally, there aren’t any issues. I’ve tried removing dust from the dimm slot and inserting the new sticks one at a time, but it didn’t work. Does anyone know a fix to this?

Specs:

New sticks: 2 x 8gb ddr3 1600MHz PC3- 12800 (I don’t know if any of this is relevant)

Old stick: Same as new sticks but I only have one and it has 4gb instead of 8gb

Hello,

5 beeps on an HP PC means RAM failure. It means either faulty RAM or the RAM is not the correct speed. In your case, since it is the correct speed, it means the new RAM is defective.

No problem! I’ve had new RAM that I’ve ordered over the years for work that was defective. It happens lol. But that’s always why they warranty and will refund/replace defective RAM
