I just found this site and am heading to search for NVMe SSD info.

    Hello, wish me luck.

Looking to upgrade from 960evo 250gb for size limitation only. The Samsung 980 Pro 1Tb is at a great price but my old Asus Prime Z270-K board M2 slot specs are:

    M2 with x4 PCI Express 3.0/2.0 bandwidth, M.2 supports up to 32Gb/s data-transfer

and if I am spending money I would like to get something beefy that will hold up if/when I do a MOBO upgrade.

    Hi,

The Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB NVME SSD will be a solid upgrade over the older 960 EVO.

Do you have any questions regarding compatibility with the SSD’s?

      Thank you for the reply.

I need the increased space but was concerned if the PCIe4 980pro would be backward compatible with my z270 Asus PCIe3 spec-ed board. I chatted with samsung 30 minutes ago and was told it would work.

I really did not want to $$ upgrade to old-ish tech only for size needs when new speed tech will also work and be substantial to future build upgrades.

As long as its M.2 NVME then it will work even if the motherboard is PCI-E gen 2, the new SSD will work on an older M.2 slot as the M.2 NVME SSD is backwards compatible with older M.2 PCI-E gen slots.
