    Freezes, Automatic PowerOffs, WeirdScreens. Help

    Hi,
I don’t know what’s wrong with my PC these days.

I get Freezes - screen shows what it last shows, PC continues running normaly.
I get Power Offs in the middle off me doing stuff - usually the system then reboots itself multiple times without success.
I get weird screens like this: https://ibb.co/jMzTFDs
I got a startup screen saying “The previous overclock settings have failed …”: https://ibb.co/W5XtZfJ
even though i never manually overclocked my system.
Also when I use the Shut Down Option from Windows 10, the OS shuts down, my screen no longer receives input, but my PC does not turn off automatically. I have to manually push the Power Button on the Case.

I don’t think this is Software related.
The BIOS still shows all my RAM.
Temperatures show in a normal range (the automatic poweroffs don’t happen with any causality to gaming)
My PC parts are all from 2013.
    I unplugged my peripherals.

Does someone know which part of the Hardware could be damaged? PSU, CPU, RAM?
I am at a total loss.

    Huge thank you in advance!!

Try restoring the MBs default factory settings in the BIOS, they are sometimes listed as one of the following " factory defaults" “most stable” or on newer boards “optimized” please note that if you have both the “most stable” and the “optimized” options in the BIOS you should choose the most stable" option as in this instance the “optimized” settings are a form of overclocking that can cause instability.

    If the above does not help, see the below;

Please provide information about your computer, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the CPU, MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better assist you.

I did reset the default BIOS Settings. There is only the “optimized” option.
I will provide the proper specs as soon as I can access the PC since I have them stored there rdy to post.
It has been caught in a restart-loop for more than a day now (I cut off power in between, tried multiple times).

Off the top of my head:
          CPU: Intel i5-3570K
GPU: Sapphire HD 7970 Radeon Dual X
          PSU: 750W ModXStream Pro
          Big Noctua CPU Fan
          Networking Card installed on MB
          MB: MSI Z77A-G45 MS 7752
          2 HDD, 2 SSD

What I managed to do is perform checks on the drives and the RAM (with memcheck). They seem to be fine.
I assume it unlikely for the GPU to cause these symptoms.

I reckon I have to replace the PSU and/or the Motherboard.
Which one is more likely to cause all these symptoms?
          • Restart Loops
          • random ShutOffs(GPU and CPU temperatures are at about 52°C resp. 37°C at most when I use them)
          • freezes (see above)

I hope I only have to buy a new PSU since that is much easier to install.
Do you think replacing the PSU is going to solve these symptoms?

This range of PSU dates back to between 2009 and 2012, not a great brand and only covered by a three year warranty, very good chance that it is on its way out so be careful.

Remove the Sapphire HD 7970 from the PCI-E slot on the MB, hook the screen up to the appropriate video port on the MB, reassemble and power up to see if you are able to boot into Windows.

Before I did this, I powered on the PC. It is stuck in a restart loop, mouse and keyboard are not even powering on.

              Then as you said:
I carefully disconnected the HD 7970, unplugged the two modular powersupply cables going from the PSU to it.
Hooked the Monitor via HDMI on the MB and powered up.

              Here’s what happens:
Boots up saying that overclock settings have been restored, same as above.
I enter the msi onboard BIOS, and push “Save Changes and Reboot”.
Now it is stuck (frozen) on the BIOS screen where I still see that Option. PC and peripherals don’t power off.

I force shut down via FrontPanel Button and after 10 secs I boot it up again.
PC starts as usual, Windows boots up nicely and I can use the PC for now.

So I guess so far it is just like with the GPU, sometimes it boots, sometimes not.

Complementing Infos I had gathered and saved on the PC:
                • disabled Windows Fast Startup
                • Windows Troubleshooter gives me no errors
                • back in August, I reset my OS cause the PC wouldn’t shut down on its own (from Windows Shut Down button) back then already. (Didn’t bother me too much, so I kept using the PC)

And I don’t know if this is relevant, but here goes:
                “More System Specs”
My BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. V2.5 19.06.2012
                SMBIOS Version: 2.7
                BIOS Mode: Legacy
                Secure Boot State: Unsupported

Windows needed an update which was handled nicely. It restarted twice during the process and booted up nice with the new update.

So I press the Windows Shut Down Button again.
Peripherals turn off, PC interiors keep running.

I don’t have another GPU to test if the problem lies with the old one or if its just the PSU that has been relieved of some power.

Sorry but not able to follow where you are up to after reading all of the above.

Does the computer boot up and shut down as it should now.
