Pc keeps restarting

Hi guys,
My pc has been newly built . Everything is new except for the power supply 550w which is around 4 years old. It has been working fine with no issues until about a month ago it started randomly rebooting. At first it was like every 30 mins it would switch off. Then becoming progressivly worse until i couldnt even log in for more than a minute before it would reboot again. I couldnt figure out what it was so i just completley reinstalled windows 10 which seemed to stop this issue . This morning it started again. Its doing it every 30 mins or so at the moment so im guessing itll start getting worse again. Could this be a power supply issue? When i re installed Windows it did seem to temporarily fix it so i really dont know .

So others can assist

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1533MHz

Your processor is locked and so cannot be overclocked, this means that you must manually set the speed of your RAM to the appropriate 2666Mhz in the BIOS.

Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Computer type: Desktop
Installation Date: 4/12/2020 11:22:18 PM

After installing Windows did you then install the drivers for the MB and starting with the chipset drivers first, this is a must or you will 100% get issues.

Avast Antivirus
Antivirus: Enabled
Virus Signature Database: Up to date

The once highly recommended free AV is so much of a nightmare these days that no one outside of Avast recommends it, you don`t need it when running Windows 10 as Windows Defender is better.

You can uninstall Avast in the Control Panel but should you have any problems see Avast clean removal info here Please create a new system restore point first.

Once Avast has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

The PSU needs to be replaced asap, VS = Value Series, possibly the worst range of PSUs that Corsair ever made, they were never intended for use with anything other than entry level desktops that only have integrated graphics.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply or double post, thanks.

The user manual for the MB is the only place to look for such information, download it from here if you don`t have one.

All that the information in your reply #6 means is that the computer shut down without you asking it to,

The word Unplanned is the giveaway clue, something overheating is a common cause of such a shutdown and in this instance the most likely culprit is the PSU.

Once you have changed the RAM speed in the BIOS, restart, run Speccy and post the new url for us if you will.

Hi ,

Sorry, havent used this site before, i think you mean not reply directly to each post? ill stop, but if thats not what you mean, sorry for misunderstanding. i will do that when i get home and post the new speccy link. Also i thought id check, ive read that it could possibly be a failed windows update thats causing the reboot loop. Any ideas on this?

Someone in a another websites forum also mentioned this "Your Speccy file shows a bunch of Services (see in Speccy under heading Services at bottom) that should be started but they are Stopped like Windows Time means a variety of possible issues’

Could this be the windows failed update that speccy is picking up as “services” ?

Easy one to answer, no, not even sure that Windows ever does enable every service as to do so any computer would have to have every feature available.

Got a link to where you read the above, would be real interesting to see what whoever advised you of that was basing their guidance on.

UPDATE: its gotten so bad again that it reboots every 30 secs, i cant even access the bios. so i tested the ram in different slots, tested with an old graphics card. still kept rebooting. i then removed my second harddrive (the OS was not installed on this one) This stopped the reboot loop for about 2 days. but it started rebooting again. I have ordered a new 700w power supply. Could it be a faulty motherboard?

Hi, yes and no. Still no sollution. It started rebooting again every 1-2minutes so i reinstalled windows 10 again. And haven’t had any issues for a few days ( when i re installed windows previously the pc was fine for about a month before it started rebooting randonly again) . Itll probably start again soon.. i have ordered the new power supply , which should arrive next week. Hopefully it helps but i really dont know . Its clearly a hardware issue as i couldnt even access the bios at one point (which i should be able to do if all of the hard ware is working correctly)but i dont understand why reinstalling windows temporarily fixes it. If it re starts again ill try accing the bios without the main hd plugged in and see if i can access it without it restarting
