    Graphics card help

I bought a custom built pc. I am geek, and know how to do a lot, but am frustrated right now.

    Specs
    Asus m4a87td motherboard
    6gb corsair
    2x wd 640gb hard drives
    Antec 550watt power supply
    Amd phenom 2 x6 1055t

It had a nvidia gtx ti 750. I just bought a gigabyte geforce 1050gtx ti G1 gaming card. Monitor is plugged in. Only graphics card no onboard graphics, and the 6 pin power is in the card.

Problem is nothing appears on the screen. Not even bios. I saw this card working on a friends computer. I updated the bios on the motherboard to the latest.

Is the new hardware being detected by the system, then the issue might be with the cable (HDMI/DP-however you are trying to connect). if the cable is working fine then check how or which port was used by your friend to connect to the monitor. Also maybe as in many cases of used graphics card, the resolution used previously might be not compatible with your system.

Not sure if its being detected. How would i know? The dvi cable works fine. I tried hdmi, and that was a no go. The graphics card holds the resolution settings from previous user?

Sometimes.. I had the same issue when I bought my previous graphics card from a friend. He had a 1080p res @120hz. and mine at that time was a lower res and 60hz. We tried fixing it back to his system and change the res. to my specs and it worked. It was a DVI cable that I was using to connect as I had no hdmi ports on my old monitor.

Oh. Maybe thats it. I thought all those settings had been stored on the hard drive.

Any other thoughts? I might try changing my monitor settings

I am not an expert. Maybe you should wait for some experts to comment on this thread, I was just trying to give you some input based on my experience. I would strongly suggest you to try some different cable and input port to begin with. Also try it on a different monitor/display.

Ok. I did try my 55" tv with an hdmi. I tried all 4 hdmi ports with no luck.

Yes. Same results. I even unplugged the hard drives power, dvd drive, and everything from the back of the computer except the power, and dvi or hdmi cables to see if something was interfering. I only tested it with 1 hdmi cable at a time or the dvi, and no hdmi cable.

I would suggest take your tower to your friend’s place and check if it is working on his monitor. Also try the cable which he uses. Finally as I suggested in the beginning, set the right res. and framerate on the card and try.

Ok. I was hoping for an alternative as he lives 45 min. Away.

Only thing i can think of aside from what you said is my power supply. Supposably the geforce 1050ti gtx G1 uses less power than my 750ti gtx, but i think it might be the 6 pin connector.

I’m debating selling the card, and maybe upgrading to something else down the road.

If no matter how powerful your psu/smps is, unless it is lower than required by the card, it should work.

I would suggest upgrading your system before buying a card.

I just remembered I had a power supply checker to check the 6 pin connector since my other graphics card doesn’t use it. It is getting power. Odd thing is when I have the geforce 1050ti in the computer the mouse, and keyboard never light up either.

I was messing around, and unplugged power to everything other than the motherboard. Tried both graphics cards, and as the computer is booting up the cpu fan idles good, but than all the sudden the computer sounds like its going to shut off, and the fan slows down, and than starts up again normal.

I never heard a computer sound like that before which is another reason that points me into thinking its the power supply not being powerful enough. Anybody else have any input?
