Unpartitioned New 3TB HDD (Please Help!)

    Hey there,

I recently built my first PC and everything went pretty well! However, when I plugged in my 3TB HDD it was split into two, a 2tb section and a 1tb section.

The 2TB allocated just fine, but after watching lots of videos and trying to follow along with other forums I can’t get the last 1tb to allocate.

Any tips or help would be much appreciated!

So, I’m gonna guess that the drive formatted as a “MBR” disk. This would explain why you can only format that much of it. In order to make use of the rest of the space you will need to format it as a “GPT” disk. To find out if it’s a “MBR” disk you’ll want to right click on the drive in the partition manager and go to properties then to the volumes tab. You’ll either see “Master Boot Record” or " GUID Partition Table" under partition style. If you do have a “MBR” disk, then you will need to backup all your data to another drive and delete the partition you have on your 3tb drive. Then you’ll right click on the drive again in the partition manager and click “Convert to GPT” then partition your drive and you should be able to format all of the space on the drive. Let us know how it goes.
