    SSE3/POPCNT instruction set

Hi. I have just come across a steam game that requires this instruction set. I don’t know anything about it but my 2.50 gigahertz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 supposedly supports the SSE3 going by the specs list. Is this something that can be turned on or enabled so i can access games requiring this. Some help would be appreciated!!

      Hi,

What is the error message when you start the game on Steam? What game are you trying to run on your system?

The Intel Core 2 Quad CPU’s are more than a decade old. You may need to upgrade to a newer CPU that supports newer instruction sets as a CPU that old will have trouble running more modern titles anyway.

The error is that it can’t run the game because of the SSE3/POPCNT instruction set. My processor is supposed to be able to. The game was Marvel Avengers on steam. My CPU handles alot of new games just this one with this error.

The game requires a 4th generation Intel i series CPU at the minimum based on the system requirements. So sad to say that your CPU does not support the game and you will need to upgrade your motherboard, CPU and RAM to a more recent Intel or AMD chip to play that game.

Yes I’ve seen that. My main question was why the error is occurring when my processor specs say can use the SSE3 instruction set.

Old processors have old code and the newer software requires the newer coed that comes on the newer processors.

Not all software is backward compatible.
