have a kingston ssd on my pc sometimes when i boot the pc boots into bios and doesnt recognise my ssd other times a black screen pops up telling me to connect a boot device and restart. It happens sometimes and other times it boots normally. Ive changed the ports the sata cable is connected to on the motherboard and it still sonetimes happens. Can this be due to a problem with the ssd, sata cable or a software problem. I run win10.

what’s the age of the SSD?
have you checked it SMART values?
what are the make/model of the SSD?
what are the BIOS settings for that SATA port it’s plugged in to, like Hot Swappable, ACHI or IDE, SATA3 or SATA6? -

try disconnecting all other devices: DVD and other HDDs.
also remove all USB sticks.
now with only the one possible boot device (the SSD) see how the startup experience is over a few days.
as to the SMART values, there are heaps of programs that tell you those, I use Defraggler from Piriform.
go to the Health tab to see the figures.
you may need to go into Settings, General and tick Show SSD drives if it is not ticked by default.Comment
