Strix Z370e - LEDs not working

    Hi,

The LEDs for my Strix Z370e are not working, I’ve tried everything, and it doesn’t seem to be a hardware as everything is properly connected in fact, the motherboard leds are being recognized by Aura, this forum won’t let me upload the foto, but the aura is recognizing everything aura compatible, also, the Bios function are both set as ON.

I’ve tried, updating the Bios(done, didn’t work), unistalling and re installing the aura app(done, didn’t work), deleting everything Light Control related and installing an older version of Aura(done, didn’t work). so not sure what else can be done here, it happened all the sudden, yesterday it was working just fine, and today when I turned on the pc, the lights won’t just go on, but it’s weird, as they are being recognized.

Also, hardware related, I just checked everuything was properly connected, but not sure what else can I check what specific port or cable, can you point me out something?

    Thanks!

I got nothing - nothing it sounds like you haven’t already tried at least.
my NZXT LED system only RGB’s if the app is running in the background (started at bootup), so I assume yours is similar?
otherwise it just shows white, are you getting that or no lights at all?
and are you talking about the RBG light on the motherboard hood or the 4pin RGB ports?

Hi Bruce, thaks so much for replying, I get no lights at all, not even white, when I turn it on, nothing happens, so perhaps, they are just fried? is that possible? weird thing is, and this is why I don’t believe they are fried, I have an RGB disipator, and it is working overall except for the lights, so it seems to me, the LED system is just not responding, see the picture for reference… I mean the motherboard hood, the pins appear to be working properly.

In my opinion, if the motherboard leds were fried, the disipator should still be turned on, at least white, and since their rgb systems work together, it seems to me something is preventing the leds to be on

nice set up by the way. (y)

as you say, it sounds like you have tried all the usual suspects.
have you tried the Support page on the ASUS website?
there is also a ROG forum that may be helpful.

any chance there were updates (Windows or ASUS) between the LED’s working one day and not working the next?

Thanks! Now that you mention it, there was indeed an update, around the time, won’t be able to fully confirm, but I do remember an update happening around that time, now it’s weird, because the computer won’t start up sometimes, like it does turn on, but nor the Bios or the Windows start up at all, and I turn it on a while agon, and the lights on the motherboard flashed for a couple of seconds, so the lights are not fried, they are indeed working, so I still have think there’s something preventing it from light them on, could it be that they are not getting enough power from the PSU? maybe the CPU is malfunctioning?

Yes, I tried the ROG Forum and nobody answered

Whoa - no BIOS or Windows splash screens - getting a bit more serious now.
your LEDs not working (sometimes) may just be the tip of the iceberg.

the rig sounds and looks new - under warranty still? if so, there’s a potential path to take it things don’t get better.
and with the new things you mentioned, now I’m wondering if there is an underlying hardware issue.

personally, I’d be backing up if you can get it started and reload a fresh copy of Windows.
I see my Windows Updates has finally detected Win10 v2004 (the April new build that follows v1909) - so you can get that using the Windows Media Creation Tool, burn a USB image and reload from that.
I know it’s a bit of a big hammer to start with, but unless you get lucky with a fix, you’re looking at hours of band-aid solutions.
why not just bite the bullet and reload Windows - that way any hardware faults should show themselves during the rebuild and the added bonus id you know you’ll be starting from a clean slate.

sorry, it did start up the windows, so that’s not an issue, just checked the aura, and the app does recognize the IO leds, someone suggested, replugging the IO shield cable, but not sure where that is, also, the lights on the motherboard, blick for 1 sec, when I turn on the power, they just don’t get on for good, could it be my psu unit is not working and need replacement?

did you check all the cables, unplug and re-plug them?
                  if not, worth a shot.

not sure what an ‘IO shield cable’ is.
the IO shield is the back plate on the motherboard that goes around all the ports (mouse, USB, network, graphics etc).
is provides dust protection, aesthetics and helps ‘shorts’ the motherboard to the case.
but as to a cable - no idea.

it’s unlikely that between working fine and not working, that a cable has come lose, but hey, check anyway.

if you built the rig yourself or are comfortable with tearing it down, I would be striping it and hoping that during the reassembly something clicks in just right.

Hi, nope, nothing worked, not even reinstalling the windows, not sure about re building my set up, so I might take it for revision to a store nearby

Lets see if Bruce has anything to suggest before you head off to the tech store.

since the reload of Windows hasn’t helped, we can probably rule out a software problem.
which sadly means a hardware fault - be it lose/broken wire or dead component.
a wire issue would probably be resolved during the teardown and rebuild process but a dead part will be a warranty claim.

                          how old is the rig?
                          under warranty?
                          place you got it nearby?
