Monitor Doesn’t Receive Signal After Installing new RAM

Ok so it’s a little more complicated than that. I’m not really that knowledgable on custom built PC’s but I recently bought more RAM because my computer had Patriot Viper Elite (2 X 4GB) 2666MHZ DDR4 Ram. I upgraded to Patriot Viper Steel (2 X 8GB) 3000Mhz DDR4. I did my research and as far as I know, this RAM is compatible with my mother board.

My motherboard is an AsRock B450M-HDV R4

It has 2 DIMM slots and this is where my confusion begins. So i spent all night trying to install my new RAM and getting my pc to work and everything.

I first installed both the RAM sticks but my pc turned on but the monitor wouldn’t receive a signal.

I tried everything

• blowing out dust from DIMM slots & Ram sticks
• switching up the position of the RAM sticks in the DIMM slots
  -pushing them in harder

I then tried to use only one stick. I kept the one on the left in and tried… it didn’t work. I tried the one on the right and voila it worked. Im new with this stuff and all the “dual channel” “2/4 DIMM slots” “RAM kit” stuff confuses me. Doesn’t anyone know what the problem could be?

What processor do you have.

I have an AMD Ryzen 2200g w/ Vega 8 Graphics. (I dont use those graphics tho because I have a dedicated graphics card)

Reason why I asked about the CPU was because of the memory that it supports in your MB, your MBs memory support list is here is the RAM that you have dual or single rank, see attached screenshot below which says that only single rank is supported when you want to have two sticks.

Thank you for your help. So does this mean my RAM isn’t compatible? I’m a little confused as to where to go from here. I’m still new to the computer scene I apologize.

No need for any apology, we have all had to star somewhere.

First thing that you need to do is look at the packaging or any paperwork for the RAM that you purchased, you are looking to see if it says duel or single rank anywhere.

Have you tried the both sticks in the right hand slot to make sure that both will work in that slot.

Yes, I tried both in the right slot and both of them worked so I can rule out a faulty RAM stick. I also put in my old ram to see if I broke a RAM slot when pushing too hard but they still worked so I can also rule out a broken DIMM slot.

I can’t seem to find whether or not it is Dual Rank or Single Rank but it is referred to as a “kit” (2X8GB) so I’m not sure if thats the same thing.

Everything suggests that the RAM is dual rank when you need single.

Do you have a link to the same RAM that you have purchased.

The only thing that I can find that may explain the issue is the voltage of the RAM that you have which requires 1.35V whereas without OCing your MB only has 1.2V going to the memory slots.

Have you checked the OCing area of the BIOS, I don`t overclock so wouldnt know what I was looking for tbh, read the user manual for the MB from page 46 onward which explains the BIOS and OC options etc.

Ok, I will look into that. But if I can’t get it to work I guess that best option is to go straight to my MB’s website and pick RAM directly from one of the acceptable lists?

Thank you so much. I went into the BIOS and figured out that the DRAM was clocked at 2666Mhz so i put it on “auto”, installed my new RAM and it worked

By changing the settings to Auto the BIOS has detected that the RAM needs 1.35V and increased the voltage to the memory slots from 1.2V to 1.35V.

I still know nothing about OCing so will stick to referring people to their MB manual whenever OCing comes up
