    Question GPU Upgrade boot loop and unable to get to safe mode

    OS: Windows 10 (an old version)
    Cpu: Ryzen 5 2600
    Motherboard: ga-ab350-gaming (rev. 1.x)
    Old GPU: rx 550
    New GPU: rx 580 OC 4gb
    Storage: crucial mx500
    PSU: corsair cx450 (450 watts)

    Maybe it is important to mention the PSU is 450W and it has only one 6 pin connector (a 6+2 connector).

    I removed my rx 550 and put in the rx 580 (without connecting the 6 pin connector) and booted up my PC and it was a black screen with a cursor and then it became a pixelated green/pink screen for the gigabyte logo screen then the windows recovery screen. I put the 6 pin connector into the rx 580 and nothing changed. I did not uninstall the rx 550’s graphics drivers before doing this. I put the hdmi cable into the motherboard and the screen stayed black. I then put the rx 550 back and the hdmi cable into it, the screen started and it was the same. The gigabyte logo came and then the windows recovery screen.

    The boot loop begins whenever I select any option in the recovery options (I haven’t tried wiping my drive for the windows re install option). I want to get to there and uninstall my AMD drivers but I can’t get to that point without it boot looping.

    I have tried:

    [li]All the 9 options in the trouble shoot advanced options.[/li][li]Enabling safe mode in CMD (I could not use shutdown /r or shutdown /r/t 0 or any of the commands because it won’t recognise “shutdown”) but I can’t restart the pc without it going back to the boot loop.[/li][li]Repair[/li][li]Enabling recovery OS rather than windows 10[/li][li]Windows 10 reset but keeping “Personal Files”[/li][li]Disabling fast boot in the gigabyte BIOS[/li][li]Removing the CMOS battery for 10 seconds[/li][li]Re-inserting the ram (into the same slots)[/li][li]the cables are the same, they are not loose or have been moved.[/li][li]putting the 6+2 pin connector into the two different ports of the rx580[/li][/ol]
    I have been shutting down my pc by turning off the power supply at the back.

    I had updated to the new AMD Adrenalin graphics driver a week ago with the rx550.

    The boot loop has now stopped since I tried to wipe windows but keep “Personal Files” and it is stuck on “scanning and repairing drive C: 100% Complete” for the last 30 minutes.

    I can take pictures if they would help.

    You need a quality brand 500W PSU before being able to use a RX 580 and not sure of what brand of card you have but from what I can find it should only have the one 8 pin connection where any 6+2 or 8 pin supplemental power dongle needs to go.

    You may find that Windows has become corrupted by the computer being turned off at the back and to be able to resolve this a clean install of Windows may be required, if the case you will need to get yourself a Linux distro to boot from to see if you can access the drive and back up the data before any reinstall.

      I know have a bios boot loop. I can’t get past the bios now

        If you power up the computer, access the BIOS and let the computer sit there, will the computer stay on.

        Have you put the original video card back in.
