    New PC wont start :-(

    Hi there,

I just bought new cpu/mobo/ram/hdd to upgrade my pc. I managed to get the new system to boot 2 times.. out of maybe trying 40 times. Maybe one fourth of the time it gets to the motherboard boot menu, the rest of the time the fans (cpu, gpu, case) just starts spinning and nothing more happens. Some times it turns it self off to turn it self on again, sometimes it just stands there with fans spinning and “No Signal” on the monitor. From the two times it managed to boot I got into windows on the old HDD and everything worked the one time, and the other time I managed to install windows on the new HDD but when the installation restarted the PC wouldnt start again.

The old PC was assembled in 2013 and works just fine this day except too low fps in games and except 3 blue screens in the last 2 months. It’s a i5 4670K with a 1 year old GTX 1060. I have reassembled it a couple of times to game since buying the new hardware - and it still works as a charm.

    The new system is:
    AMD Ryzen 3700X
AsRock b450i (bios updated to support new Ryzen CPUs)
    2x 8GB DDR4
    Samsung EVO860 500GB
    GTX 1060 (the old one)
    750W PSU (the old one)

I’m a bit lost… any ideas/recommendations? I’ve never assembled a pc that didn’t work so I have zero experience with troubleshooting this.

    Hello

Go back inside the case and make sure your mobo isn’t grounded somewhere. Example mobo touching the case and make sure your stand off’s are seated correctly.

While you are in in the system

What type of cooling setup/system are you using

Remove the heat sink and clean the old paste and apply new about the size of a flat pea

Did any of the thermal paste run out the sides of the CPU

Make sure the fans are connected to the motherboard correctly and to the proper ports

Are there pins on the CPU and if so were they bent

You did make sure that all of the parts are compatible

          Hi there!
I depend on my machine to practice and play with my csgo team in weekdays so I didn’t get to try your ideas out to get the new hardware to work yet. I Will give it a shot this weekend and update the thread.
It’s so frustrating that the old hardware works and the new shiny hardware is just collecting dust.

I made sure the mobo isnt grounded.
I made sure the cpu fan is connected to right pin.
I tried out with only 1 of the 2 ram.
I tried to remove the “reset power” switch (some youtube adwice that didnt helt at all).
I removed all hdd execpt the new one with windows 10 installed.
I made sure the bios version is correct. (the older versions doesnt support the cpu)

              Same issue
The only new thing I can add is that 1st try did nothing, 2nd and 3rd try got me into bios menus. From there no luck at all… so it seems like the system is most keen on getting me somewhere in the start.. dont know i that helps me somehow.

It’s the default cpu cooler from the 3700x box which comes with paste on it. I just placed it on the cpu and “clicked” it in. I can see how one can do it wrong. I figured I would try to remove it anyway to have a look. It seems stuck… I mean… maybe just the paste dried out.. I don’t really know how much force I can put in it to get it off.

So now I got the cooler off the cpu. I guess it got a bit soft in the end after trying to start the pc.

Pins on the cpu was fine and the paste was no where near the pins even though it was on the side of the cpu.

I connected the clip on one side of the cpu cooler first, then the cooler on the cpu and clipped the other side of the cooler - so the paste was mostly next to the cpu on one side like a had been pushing the paste from one side to the other. I done know if I was suppose to put the cooler on the cpu from above and then clip both clips afterwards.. I dont know how much paste there needs to be on the cpu - I had a very thinn see-through layer but the whole surface was covered.

I gave up. Just gave the machine to a repair guy today. Can’t wait to hear from him..
