Extreme lags and FPS-Drops in Videogames

    Hello,

I hope you guys can help me.
I have a solid Setup wich is about 2,5 Years old (ownbuild) that I use for Videogames. I mostly play tripple A Titles like Battlefield V and Flightsimulations like DCS 2.5. They have been running without any Problems for the most of time. 2 months ago i startet to get smal stuttering and FPS drops after some Hours of Playtime. I Checked my System and realised that my SSD, wich runs Windows and my Flightsim, was full. I cleaned it here and there and it helped for the time. Since a week these Lags got extremly worse. Videogames now lag every second wich makes them all unplayable. I decided that it was time to clean up my SSD and HDD. I cleaned them complety, reinstalled Windows and all the drivers. These Lags and FPS-Drops are still there and severe. Battleflied V lags around once a second. I checked my System with several tools. (MemTest86, HWMonitor, MSI Afterburner and FurMark) The only tests that showed problems where the stresstests with FurMark. So it seems like its a problem with my GPU. I never OC my System. To help me with my Gamingfix while I find help I Installed Civilation VI, wich I though is still playable with all the heavy lags and FPS drops, but I hadn´t had a single Lag or FPS drop in Civ VI.

Any Solutions to this Problem? Is it just a settings problem?

Thanks for helping and have a good Weekend.

    With regards,

    Aplaut

      Hi Aplaut, Welcome to PCHF!

What power supply does your computer have? Have you updated your motherboards BIOS to the latest version? Do you have another video card that you can use to test the computer with when you play games?

        Hey Evan,

I use a 500 Watts Powersuply from bequiet. I have updated my Motherboard drivers but not the BIOS yet. Upon Starting MSI Gaming app it starts with an errormessage that simply says: “The DWM or Graphic Card has some issues that the application can not be ran correctly”. Furthermore I noticed that when im Stress-Testing my GPU I get a noise from the GPU in the same intervals than the FPS drops. I asume these are the fans spoling up and down. Maybe that helps…

I will meet with a friend this Weekend to test another GPU in my system and I´ll try to update the Mainboards BIOS.

        Greetings,

        Aplaut

            So here is my Update.

I have tested another GPU in my System and hadn´t had any problems. Also my GPU was running fine in another System. I then build back my System and all the Lags and FPS drops where gone. To be honest i dont know what helped but maybe all it needed was disconnecting the GPU and putting it back in. Anyway im Happy my System runs fine again and i want to thank you for your time

            Have a good one.

            with regards
