    Adding ram - not detected

    Hi all,

I am trying to add another stick of ram to:

    ASUS® Z97-P: ATX, LG1150, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs
    8GB Kingston DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 8GB)

I have acquired a stick of crucial 8gb RAM (it is ddr3 1866 but i believe it should work, just downrated to 1600?).

I have added it in (first ram is in grey slot so added new into the second grey slot) and it is detected in BIOS but does not show in windows. I have tried removing and reseating it without success. I have tried it in a different slot without success (computer does not boot).

    Could anyone assist please?

    Many thanks,
    J

    What Windows are you using

Did you check compatibility of the ram at Asus site for that motherboard?

Have you tried booting your PC with the NEW stick of ram ONLY in the slot where the original stick was?

Hi and thanks. Windows 10. I did check with the crucial compatability tool for the motherboard make, although i have just redone so and the compatible options are showing as UDIMM and i have got RDIMM (so that may be the issue).

Putting the new stick in by itself results in beeping. A one beep followed by two beep repeating pattern…

Beep code indicates ram issue, perhaps you should try a compatible stick of ram.
