I don’t know why my flash drive is so much smaller, but it got that way after I used it for memtest. It’s a 7.41 GB drive but it only has 353 or so MB of total space when I plug it into my computer. At least that’s what it’s telling me.
I’m gonna need some 30 GB for a backup, but I’m sure there’s some stuff I can cull right before I actually back it up.
So after the reset and in the windows setup, when it asked me which network I’d like to connect to, it froze on me. I reset my PC and now I’m through that section. This is after I did the complete file wipe reset so I haven’t had the chance to introduce new software like steam or discord. Initially it seems like the problem is still happening, but I can keep it running without adding anything to see if it freezes again.
so it’s looking like it may indeed be hardware.
main culprits would be hard drive, motherboard or memory.
the hard drive you replaced, that was a new one?
and the memtest didn’t show any errors.
you still have the add-on graphics card removed?
so as much as we can trust the result on the memory and a new drive and the graphics card out of the loop - that only leaves the motherboard.
I totally blanked on the graphics card. I’ll take that out now. I did this in a previous post but that didn’t change how frequently I froze.
And this is my second brand new hard drive. I bought a Seagate barracuda previously and that ended up starting to fail about 3 weeks later, it wouldn’t pass the long term generic test with Seagate’s HDD testing software. This one I’m on now is a Western Digital.
It’s currently been on throughout the night and through my work day, a total of around 20 hours without a freeze, so it may be a while until the next one. Thank you for being so patient with me…
It definitely didn’t like me taking out my GPU. It just froze on me again. I was on YouTube when the second time happened. The first was when I was reading a new article.

From reply #22 in your previous thread;
“With the GPU disconnected from the MB, it lasted much longer than usual, but it froze eventually. Took about 7-9 hours this time instead of the usual <1-2 hours.”
And what I had mentioned previously in my reply #21 regarding your present PSU;
“I use and recommend EVGA PSUs but this model has had a few problems with performance and reliability etc”.
Don`t rule out the PSU.

Had you reinstalled any of the programs that you ran previously.
Have you reinstalled the drivers for the MB and starting with the chipset drivers first.
I have not installed anything on my computer. I’m still using Edge as my browser.
I will get to work on posting the speccy and will wait for your response with what to do about the drivers to my MB.
Also, in the previous thread, I said that I installed the MB drivers already but one didn’t take as my HDD needed to be setup in RAID mode while I’m using AHCI.
I do remember that I gave you the voltages of my various components and you said my RAM voltage was too high. Does passing the memtest rule that out as my RAM being the cause?
If you are still having the problem before reinstalling any of the previous programs you can effectively rule them out as the being the cause, pain in the proverbial I know but it is important that you do not reinstall any third party software or refit the add on GPU while you are troubleshooting.
Download and install the AMD chipset drivers which you can get from here
Do you use a RAID set up.
Can[ICODE]t comment on any previous testing I[/ICODE]m afraid and we may need to look at the RAM again.
In addition to the above, can you let us know the following;
Did you install Windows in UEFI or Legacy mode.
What type of Windows media was used for the install, a retail DVD, downloaded ISO or a USB thumb drive created on another computer.
NB: let us have the Speccy url at your earliest convenience if you will, busy tomorrow so will not be around.
I had to buy another version of Windows when I took it into the shop and the package of Windows that I received, after they already installed it, had a DVD in the sleeve, so I’m guessing they had an external CD/DVD drive that they would use for convenience. But I’m not 100% sure, it just seems easier to do in my mind so that’s my guess.
My computer has been on all night and it hasn’t frozen on me. It hasn’t frozen since the chipset drivers were installed, but I’ll post when it does freeze again.
