How would you know of a fualty sound issue?

So I recently built my pc and getting audio from my headphones, but my pc doesn’t seem to pick up sound from my mic. I tried changing the sound settings making my headphones the default sound, Putting the input mic as a stereo mix. Downloading the realtek hd audio software and nothing. When I go in game my mic icon seems to be moving and people start complaining lol. Some help would be greatly apppreciated
