    Restart when GPU installed

    Hi
A bit of a long story, but I’ll do my best. I’ve got an oldish PC, for which I’ve upgraded the CPU, cpu cooler/fan, GPU, power supply and hdd.

About a year ago it began crashing when playing games or videos. The cpu fan had beg stop-starting and slowing down, even when plugging it straight to the power supply.

I had no money so just left it alone until a few weeks ago. I was able to play some games on it for about 2 hours before the cpu fan began playing up again, and it crashed.

At this time I began having troubles with Windows, I think the constant crashing had corrupted it, so I completed a reinstall.

I then replaced the cpu fan. Unfortunately, the screws on the cooler had threaded and I think I damaged the motherboard removing it as the pc wouldn’t even boot.

I replaced the motherboard, which fixed that issue, and the new cpu fan is working fine with no crashing.

The problem now is the gpu, when I tried to reinstall its drivers, the pc restarted mid installation, and continued to until repair was triggered.

Ive made sure the card and it’s cables are sited properly. I’ve used ddu to clear any drivers, I’ve tried latest drivers and older ones, I’ve installed in safe mode and normal, I’ve tried custom, partial, installations and full.

the only improvement I’ve found is that the the drivers will install however the pc still goes into a restart loop, when I then restart it to complete the installation.

Its pretty frustrating, as I really can’t afford a new card, so any suggestions will be gratefully received

    my specs:
    Windows 10
    Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 R2
    GeForce 780
    Fx 8350
    16gb ddr 3

It’s an EVGS nex750b 80 plus bronze psu. CPU temp is fine, the gpu barely warms up as it it never heat to work after install.
I’ll look up actual figures when I’m back home, but temp doesn’t seem an issue.

          “Gets” to work, not “heat”

For starters you will have to do a CLEAN INSTALL of windows after changing the motherboard.

Hi thanks for the advice. I’ve completed a clean install this morning, but the same outcome I’m afraid

If this is the current motherboard remove the display card and use the onboard display and see if that make any difference

There are the only two that I see for the Chipset no where do they state Windows 8

Suggest you install Windows 7 which was the latest version of windows supported by that motherboard. Retest after installation of Win 7.

The board may work with Windows 10, but then there is always the chance it wont.
