Anyone know why my M.2 isn't working?

    Hello all,

I recently purchased a 500gb Samsung 970 Evo Plus for my build and spent 3 hours installing it with no avail. At first i thought i might not be putting it in all the way, but i tried several times and it seems like thats not the case. It seems to be in all it can go. When i go into my bios, or even just looking for it on the file explorer, its not there, hence why i thought it wasn’t plugged in all the way. If anyone can help me i would really appreciate it.

    MOBO: Gigabyte B450 DS3H
    CPU: Ryzen 5 2600X
Ram: 16gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000Mhz
Graphics Card: Geforce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming
    Power Supply: EVGA 750w G2
Storage: Some random 1tb hard drive

    Thanks,
    Dom

Does the drive show in Administrative tools/computer management/disk management? If so initialize and format it.

If it doesnt show make sure the drive is supported by your motherboard and that the bios has the latest update..

No it dosent. I tried to do that and create a partition, but the only drive that showed up was my HDD. As far as I know, it is supported. Pc part picker says it is and I looked it up and I’m pretty sure it is. The connectors are the same and idk what else to go by. If you know something I don’t, let me know. As for the BIOS update, how would I go about that? Do I just go on the Gigabyte page and search for my models latest update? Once I do that, how do I actually update it?

what is your motherboard make and model?
for Gigabyte ones ther are two ways to flash the BIOS; from within BIOS using Q-Flash or with the Windows app called @BIOS.
artilce can be found here; https://www.gigabyte.com/webpage/20/...flashBIOS.html

that board should be fine with the m.2 SSD.
you can’t put it in wrong due to the notch in the SSD and if the screw hole lines up with the mobo then you have it in all the way.
which to me only leaves 3 possibilities; it’s a faulty SSD (unlikely but…), the mobo needs a BIOS update or the SSD needs a firmware update.
and without the PC going, those last two become slightly harder.
you could whack in any HDD and install Windows (or a Linux USB distro) just to get the PC going for testing, and upgrade the BIOS a via the ways mentioned.
but the SSD upgrade will need either putting in another PC and into an external enclosure for around $25.

Luckily i bought this M.2 to add to my existing pc so i do have windows up and running. I have updated my Bios to the latest version, and just exchanged it at the store for a new one. Unfortunately, neither of these worked so im honestly lost. How would i go about updating the SSD?

@Domthebomb3 please don’t quote previous posts, totally unnecessary

Can you confirm what bios version you are using now, this seems quite important.

F41 which is the most recent one as far as i know. It even said in the update notes that it improved M.2 compatibility, which i thought was a sing of hope but nothing has changed.
