    Buying another hard drive

    Hey guys
I currently only have a 256 GB SSD hard drive, so i need to buy an extra one.
I was just wondering, if it would be smartest to buy an extra SSD or to buy a HDD instead.
I do have space for all my games/programs on my SSD, it’s just pictures and videos that take up too much space.
No matter what, I am buying a 2 TB hard drive, btw.
Let me know what you think.
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to PCHF Storminator,

If me I would add a second SSD for the games and most often used programs + a 1TB WD Black HDD for a back up image of the boot drive on one partition and the music and videos on their own separate partitions.

      Hi Storminator, Welcome to PCHF!

I would recommend you get 1 TB SSD as they are pretty affordable, Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD.

I personally wouldn’t buy hard drives anymore unless you are on a steep budget.

if budget isn’t high on your constraints, go SSD.
if speed is high on your demands, go SSD.

if storing a media library, go HDD as speed is not important at all.

all depends on what will be the drives day to day duties.

if you’re buy a 2TB HDD anyway, can’t you move the space hogging files off the SSD onto the new drive, freeing up the SSD?

2TB SSD’s are still quite expensive.

You don’t say but if you are considering getting another hard drive to supplement your existing drive do consider this. As you are now aware SSD drives are probably the best performance boost you could give to a PC, and many people use an SSD for their main OS drive and use a regular mechanical drive for other files. Doing this is fine and offers a cheaper alternative but slows performance noticeably. Reason is it takes time to wake the secondary drive if it is in a offline state, then to spin up, find, and access your files. Obviously this takes time and slows things down (in comparison to how the ssd works)

If you are planning to add an extra drive to your system and speed is important and money no issue, get an SSD.
IF speed is not an issue and you are concerned at the cost of an ssd, a mechanical drive will save you heaps.

Unfortunately there can be no ONE ANSWER fits all to your question.
