Replaced GPU Fan now getting electrical noise instead of metal grinding noises.

You can go back to my last post if you want the previous story as to what was wrong with my PC but basically I replaced my GPU fan due to my old fan scratching the heat sink and making a cringe noise thast I couldn’t stand to listen to all the time. Once I turned it on it worked for awhile about 15-30 minutes later however it started making this noise.

Is there anything I should look for? How do I troubleshoot/ detect where this is coming from and how to fix it?

    Hello

Are you sure this GPU fan is not hitting something? If not this fan sounds like it is bad for a GPU fan…

I think the fan is too big for the case around the gpu and hitting it now actually, would I be able to leave that off and run the PC I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try at this point.

The noise you posted is mechanical, not electrical.

If you mean the GPU fan blades are hitting the shroud around it then either the fan is the incorrect one for the video card or possibly something is hitting the rotating fan blades. Don’t think it’s possible to incorrectly fit the fan shroud but check that also. Check also to ensure the wiring to the fan is clear of the fan blades.

Remove your video card and inspect it. It should be obvious what is contacting the fan to make the noise you posted.

Pretty sure it’s rubbing along the “shell” of the gpu like the covering that leaves a hole around the fan. An administrator in the forums said to buy the fan I bought as a replacement and it was the correct fan just seems a bit bigger. I’m almost 100% sure this is the reason of it making that noise I’m just making sure I can leave the shell off without any problems or if it’s completely necessary to keep on.

Okay took one last look and figured out there was a piece of plastic that I had to break off of the fan for it to sit right in the heat sink and it solved everything. Sorry for taking up time this is the first time I’ve ever really messed with the insides of a computer so I was confused with how everything needed to work but Inhave it fixed now thanks for your help.

No problem taking up time, look at it this way that you learnt something, and you will remember if you come across it again :giggle:
