Hi, I recently built a new computer for my brother, processor, graphics card and motherboard. the mouse plugs into a usb port and works fine in the uefi but nothing plugged into a usb port works in windows. its windows 7 and everything was working fine until the upgrade. For now iv put the graphics card into his old computer so it is the only new part and everything works fine. I did a bit of googling and apparently microsoft have stopped supporting usb drivers for windows 7. I did read something about making a boot disk and tweaking something to get the usb ports working but havent got round to it yet. If i get a usb card that plugs into a pci slot will this sneak around the problem and are newer usb cards subject to microsoft not supporting motherboard drivers.

Have you installed the motherboard chipset drivers???
Does this mean you have simply replaced these components and left the existing operating system drive as it was? If so would suggest you reinstall windows fresh.Originally posted by kaijufondlerprocessor, graphics card and motherboard.Comment

yes i have installed the new drivers and tried other mice, keyboards but it made no change. mouse and keyboard plugged into usb port work fine in uefi but not in windows. i saw on forums that others have experienced this and it is because microsoft no longer support windows 7 usb drivers on new motherboards. thats why i thought a usb add on card might circumvent this issue.Comment

Have you removed the old motherboards chipset drivers? Changing hardware like this whilst using the old operating system commonly ends in tears, and a reinstall is always the best way forward. It is also time to move on from Windows 7.Comment
