AMD FX8350 getting way too hot too fast

Got an 8350 with an antec h650 Properly mounted, double checked paste and everything
    mobo: asus M5A99x EVO

Have tried several clock speeds and voltages
    4.0ghz @ stock voltage, something like 1.30V
    3.8 @ 1.18V
    3.7@1.18

The lower clocks help it a lot at idle, getting it sub 40 which im happy with, but under any stress, it will shoot up to high 70’s
by stress i mean literally one game of CsGO with nothing on in the background.

The antec cooler is a few years old, so im afraid i might need a new one, but if i can close out the game im running before it shuts itself down, the temperature gets back to 40’s in a bout a minute

One thing I noticed is that when changing these settings in BIOS, I would open CoreTemp and the Voltage listed would still be that 1.3250V, but using AMD overdrive to manually set it down didnt seem to accomplish much.

Ive heard that NB voltage might affect this issue but idk enough about it to go messing around

Have you tried setting bios to defaults? also suggest applying new paste instead of checking it.

The default puts it at 4.2 @ 1.3V which always made it too hot
Ill order some paste today, but Ive had this problem before and after replacing my all in one cooler thing

FX Chips always run hot. They’re designed to run hot, and if you’re worried, a liquid cooler is the way to go. Unfortunately, the FX chip will still run hot, as that’s just the way it was designed.

I would suggest getting a liquid cooler. A liquid cooler provides superior cooling vs air cooling.
