I figure it may just be easier if I was to purchase and test a new stick of ram.
Three things that I would do if I was in this situation, ask around friends to see if they had a couple of compatible sticks of DDR4 that you could borrow to test in your board and likewise have them test your RAM in their board and asking a local tech store if they could test your MB with two sticks of their RAM, as things stand there is no 100% certainty that it is the board that has the problem.
