PC won't turn on, fans and LED's starts for a second then everything turns off.

The previous day to this post an electrician came over to install ceiling fans and in doing so he turned the power off so without me knowing I tried to turn my pc on and it did what it is doing now, the fans run and leds for about half a second then die.

The thing is I had the problem yesterday and fixed it by replugging the PSU and mobo cables then replugging the hard drive cables and it worked at that. However I now have the same problem this morning and I’ve tried what worked previously and nothing just the same power boot as described. The only thing that has changed since yesterday is I turned the power off at the wall like every other night.

Ive tried different ports at the wall and I’ve concluded the power board is fine, I’m just confused because I fixed it yesterday and now it’s acting up again, any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks, Patrick.

What I’ve tried as of today:
    • booting without USB accessories, GPU, 1 Ram stick, system fans or hard drives.
    • replugging PSU cables and mobo cables
    • Taking out mobo battery
    • cleaning ram sticks
    • dust cleaning everything

    System

    CPU: I5 6600k
GPU: MSI GeForce Gtx 1060 6Gt Oc
    Mobo: Asrock Z170 Pro4/D3
    Ram: Kingston Hyperx fury 16gb DDR3 (2 x8gb)
    CPU cooler: Hyper 212 Evo
    PSU: EVGA supernova 750w

    Hello

Are the ceiling fans running off the same circuits? Also is the power outlet worn out?

Hi @Patrick92 and welcome to PCHF

This is going to require some narrowing down. When a computer does that, it means 1 of 4 things: a bad motherboard, bad CPU, bad PSU, or bad RAM.
      • Have you tried ruling out a bad PSU by plugging in a known good working PSU into the ATX, CPU Power, and GPU power pins?
      • Have you tried pulling out all the RAM to see if the RAM is the culprit?

Ceiling fans are not running off the same circuit I think he turned the power off as a whole and I’ve tried plugging the pc into different sockets around the house without success. Sorry for the late reply.

Haven’t tried swapping the PSU I’ll see if I can borrow one, I’ve tried booting with 1 stick of ram in different slots without success. The ram looks fine and I’ve cleaned it.
          Sorry for the late reply.

It sounds like the PSU is dead. I would try a known working one and see if it works. If it does, claim a warranty on the PSU and/or homeowner’s insurance if you have it.

Problem fixed by resetting bios via cmos cable. Although I do fear the issue may reappear in the future, thanks for your help and time! (Sorry I didn’t know how to close a thread.)
